My kid flies four or five times a year to visit. The airline I have to use just announced today that they're raising the fee they charge for unaccompanied minors by 150%!
American Airlines is now going to begin charging you to check ANY bags. They're also going to charge you more for every other hidden fee and surcharge they rip you for.
I hate flying to begin with. I hate being crammed into a plane with no leg room, no room to recline. I hate delays and cancellations. In short, I hate flying.
But sometimes you just have to grin and bear it. Hubby and I were thinking about a vacation later this year, and I was starting to get kind of jazzed about it. No more. On one income it would be hard enough, but with all the jacking around that the airlines are doing, it's just not going to work.
So I came up with a list of the next round of proposed fee increases. See if you can come up with more.
- $100 for each carry on, including purses, backpacks, briefcases, etc.
- $15 for a seatbelt
- $1 to use the bathroom (they’ll install coin slots)
- $5 for a copy of SkyMall
- $7.50 each segment to walk down the jetway (after all, those involve maintenance costs, right?)
- $25 for a seat cushion
- $1 for a tray table (again, they’ll install coin slots)
- $1 to lower the window shade (make sure you bring quarters!)
- $50 to use your laptop, iPod, DVD player, or video game (just some dumb, random fee)
- $1 for an airsickness bag
- $10 for a pillow
- $20 for a blanket (you can buy both at a vending machine before you board)
