2000-plus more looking for work in an economy that is sucking the life out of us all.
After 27 years in the business, Jevic Transportation, Inc. has ceased all operations in terminals across the eastern seaboard, Ohio and Chicago. Due to many factors, including our nation's gas/diesel crisis, the powers-that-be have sent out the form letters that Jevic is no more. Or, is it?
Step on over...
Seems that the big cheeses have pink-slipped most of their employees (some are still working during the 'wind down' period) and my heart still hasn't slowed down from reading the terrifying WARN Act letter that we received this last Monday. After a day or two of mourning, my husband and I are busy filling out applications and rearranging our financial situation, hoping the bump won't be as disasterous as for some. We're pretty fortunate, as we've managed to get our credit cards paid off, for the most part and we paid off our car loans (my 9 year old LHS and his old, old Toyota need to be good little cars and keep on chuggin' along), but after 10 years at a good job with good pay and benefits, we are starting over like thousands of others in the good ol' US of A. We're getting a little long in the tooth for all this nonsense. And, I'm scared out of my mind that our country is being sucked up into a financial cesspool that may take years to recover from...if ever.
Reuters as well as other news sources are reporting that Jevic has filed for Chapter 11 (reorganization/restructuring)and two former employees have filed a class action suit for WARN Act violations, urging other formers to sign on.

This is the way businesses are doing it these day, I guess. Squeeze out the employees who have worked hard and long, staying with the company through good times as well as bad, only to be flicked off to eventually be replaced with those who will work for much less with fewer benefits, if any. To say we feel a little used and abused would be an understatement. This hurts. But, beyond all the pain, what is really upsetting is knowing that there will be many more Jevics closing down in the near future. So, if you can, please get a few bucks on the side, clean up any credit cards (and make sure your college-bound kids don't get snagged into signing up for any), pay down your loans and hold on tight.
Thanks for listening.
