One of the advantages of being from another country is when something huge happens and yet people go on about their daily lives as normal. Probably because the 'whatever it is' means nothing to them and their lives.
Which is fine by me.
For I am a Manchester United fan. Have been since the 70s. And just because I'm a US Citizen doesn't mean I don't get to cheer the Red Devils on.
Especially as they're Champions of Europe.
And yes, I made the video myself.
I went to a local bar at 2pm, wearing my United shirt, and I saw they already had ESPN2 on the big screen. Lovely.
Then I found out the guy that owns the bar is from Ireland, and he follows Chelsea. They even have a Chelsea cap on one of the knick-knack shelves.
The barman knew a lot about the Premier League too. And there are more people into the game than you'd give credit for. I got to talking to one man that was very knowledgeable of all things pertaining to previous United players that came from Ireland. George Best to Roy Keane, this man knew them all.
So: that's my diary. I'm happy, United won in dramatic fashion, I made a video. Nothing political, nothing mind-blowingly exciting for most other people.
But I wouldn't have it any other way.
