Well, team, a "programming note" first. Since there will be no Countdown on Monday (Memorial Day), there will be no Countdown diary. Try to contain your wailing & gnashing of teeth! ;) Thank a vet for their brave service to our country! Tuesday (the 27th) is my birthday. Hubby and I will be going out, but I think we'll be back in time for a diary. Check in the usual place at the usual time to see for sure if there's a Countdown diary/CityLightsLover's birthday edition! I'll be 37 if anyone's dying of curiosity but is too "shy" to ask. ;)
Now, on to the Countdown business at hand!
#5 "Sen. Clinton Cites RFK Assassination in Defending Continued Candidacy" - There's that horrible video again. It gets worse every time I see it. And, I've been following this "campain" since the beginning, and I don't recall a huge outcry for her to leave after Iowa. Senator Obama's "people" are giving her the benefit of the doubt. Do you think Senator Clinton really realizes the extent that she's really stepped in it? Howard Fineman called her words "weird." "Weird" is not the word I'd use. Mr. Fineman nailed, though, Senator Clinton's inability or unwillingness to admit "she screwed up." Does the Iraq Authorization vote come to anyone else's mind? Just think of how differently her campaign could've ended up with the saying of these 3 little words: I was wrong.
#4 "Sen. Clinton Cites... Part II" - I love Douglas Brinkley! He did a lot of work for Hunter S. Thompson in his later years. Mr. Brinkley looks pi$$ed but very sad. I think many are sad and angry, obviously. He made a good point; the articulation of thoughts that were apparently in her head for awhile is the frightening aspect. He used the word "pathology"! Mr. Brinkley mentioned that Senator Clinton needs to do something "emotive" tomorrow. I'd say dropping out would do fit that bill. I know; I won't hold my breath. Man, the more I think about all this the angrier I'm getting.
**Sorry, I can't celebrate Monty Python's "birthday"; it's one of the very few areas of disagreement between Keith and me. I don't like Python! It's not funny! Look at the kitty in the cab; I loved Toonces!**
BUSHED! "Torture-Gate" Thanks for fessing up now, Condi! "We Support the Troops by Not Really Supporting Them-Gate" GWB thinks a decent raise for our brave soldiers in harm's way fighting for us is "unnecessary." Go back to playing golf, ya' jerk! "Mustache-Gate" Someone's doodling on official photos? Huh??
#3 "Medical Malpractice" AKA "The Mind-Body Problems" Senator McCentury is fit for a man of his years and background; I guess that comes from throwing so many. PMSing women are whores?! Did I catch that correctly from the good Rev. Hagee? Well, they can get mean, I guess. And, before anyone goes jumping down my throat, the last time I checked, I'm a woman; I'll have to ask hubby about the "whore" part. "McCain's Well-Being" (such as it is)... Pathetic Parsley's been pitched; poo! 527 groups will make the next few months ugly. We need to be ready for it.
WPITW - Campaign for Children and Families must not be worrying too much about children and families these days or even their own lives if they have the time to worry about the sexual orientations of people wanting to get married. I guess I need to ad Lou Dobbs to my straight jacket order. How many am I up to now? Mark Busby has a hoot of an idea about fraternities!
#1 "Special Comment" - Keith, I don't envy you this task at all; I know you take no pleasure in this. I wonder how South Dakota is coping with all this attention? Keith seems genuinely hurt, angry, sad, etc. - as we all should be. What was that noise?! I hope someone just dropped something. "Insensitive" and "heartless" and "frightening" were perfect words to use. "We cannot forgive you this!" Wow...
