I suppose we should not expect much from a Faux News person.
But this week after Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor, Mort Kondracke seems to think the timing is perfect to write an article in Roll Call essentially telling the GOP to get their act in gear to prevent Ted Kennedy's dreams from being realized in this election.
The title of the piece, published just a few days after Kennedy's diagnosis, is "Can GOP Reform to Avoid 'Kennedy Scenario' for 2008?"
I kid you not.
Maybe I am just a bit sensitive right now over the RFK/Assassination comments with regard to Obama, but I must say that I find it incredibly tasteless to write an article using someone just diagnosed with brain cancer as a bogeyman.
This is how Kondracke starts his piece:
Everyone in and around American politics is pulling for Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) on a personal level. But Republicans have to work very hard to avoid the fulfillment of his political dream.
Ok, one obligatory sentence to acknowledge the man is going though something kinda bad right now....now on to business! Republicans need to get their act in gear or his wishes for America may come true, God forbid!
At the end of a pretty hum-drum article about the sad state of GOP affairs, Kondracke concludes his article like this:
Republicans clearly have been awakened to the perils facing them in November. They still have five months to avert Ted Kennedy's fond hope -- but, in reality, that's precious little time.
Wow.
You'd think under the circumstances Kondracke could have used a different bogeyman. Maybe Obama? Maybe a bogeywoman like Nancy Pelosi would suffice. Were Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, or Louis Farrakhan not available or something?
I guess the reaction of Beltway Boys like Mort Kondracke to Ted Kennedy's cancer diagnosis is to savior every last day he is around - to use as a bogeyman to rally their troops, o course.
This is the sick Washington we are facing in this election.
It's a Washingon that sees little wrong with strategizing about the aftermath of a possible assassination of an African American candidate for president
It's a Washington that has little compunction about demonizing someone who just got diagnosed with an awful disease just days earlier.
It's a Washington in which a White House counsel and chief of staff harrass a hospitalized Attorney General in order to get permission to conduct domestic wiretapping.
These people are depraved and inhuman and we need to do whatever we can to defeat them.
