This primary has been hard-fought. I don't want to debate who was more poorly treated by the press. I don't want to argue about who played the race card, or who campaigned more negatively, or who whined more, or whose supporters are more deluded.
Unlike many, I think reasonable people can disagree.
To my fellow Democrats who support Clinton:
I'll admit it up front, as an Obama supporter, I'm still angry at some of Clinton's campaign tactics. But every time in the past few months that I've gotten really angry, I've headed over to MyDD to read what was being said there. And yeah, I read some things by Hillary supporters there that frustrated me. But I always got some good insight into other interpretations of Clinton's actions.
Thus my contention above, that reasonable people can disagree.
I am an Obama supporter. I really believe he will be a truly great president. I think Hillary has run a poor campaign. But I have always believed, I still believe, that she would have been a smart, capable, well-informed president.
Also, I applaud the valor of any Clinton supporter who still comes around the DailyKos to sincerely try to engage with us. I wanted to write this diary to show that there are some of us who are eager to extend a hand, to those who are willing to accept it.
To my fellow Democrats who support Obama:
The truth is, we've won. And what it comes down to, is that we need them more than they need us. If Clinton were ahead, the opposite would be true.
A part of me recognizes that it is too soon to start coming together. It would be like two American league baseball teams in game 7 of the ALCS, in the bottom of the 8th inning, with the score 3-2, suddenly turning to each other and saying, "You know what? We need to concentrate on beating the National League!"
So maybe my diary is premature. But this has been bothering me for weeks, and I just had to get it off my chest. Thanks.
