I don't want to step on anyone's toes with this diary, but after reading Frank's diaryabout being accepted into the Obama Organizing Fellows and after reading all of the comments from people who want to help, I felt that there should be a broader effort to support these wonderful people.
These are unpaid positions, so perhaps we can do our part by sending canned and packaged food to the Obama offices where the fellows will be working.
I am not sure how to go about organizing this, but perhaps other Organizing Fellows can check with the campaign offices to see if sending food is okay, then post addresses here. A list of needed items would be helpful, too.
I will update as necessary.
Are you fired up? Ready to go? Let's do this!
Update: For those who are unaware of the Organizing Fellows program, here's a short summary:
This summer we are looking for students and recent graduates who want to be a part of a new generation of leadership that believes, like Senator Obama, that real change comes from the ground up.
Fellows will be trained on the basics of organizing & campaign fundamentals and then placed in a community to carry out grassroots activities. Fellows will be asked to commit to a minimum of 30 hours per week and will:
* participate in training on field organizing, messaging, and other activities
* organize in a community, working in conjunction with grassroots leaders and campaign staff
* continue to build the movement
(The deadline for submission has now passed.)
