Today it's been reported that Hillary is open to being Obama's VP. Fortunately, it won't happen.
Update: This concession victory speech of hers tonight should just about assure that she's not on the ticket.
In today's news, it's been reported that Hillary is willing to serve as Obama's VP.
"I am open to it," Clinton replied, if it would help the party's prospects in November. Her direct quote was described by two lawmakers who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for Clinton.
Meanwhile, Howard Fineman reports that Hillary insiders are indicating that she does want to be asked, but that she's not interested in serving. He also is reporting that Obama insiders are saying that Obama is willing to offer the VP post to Hillary but only if he can be guaranteed that she'll refuse.
It would appear that Hillary has only expressed interest in being Obama's running mate in order to appear fully supportive of the interests of the Democratic Party and that Obama would make a token offer to her only to help unite the party.
I must confess that having her on the ticket would be good in one sense: that she'd be forced to answer for, and repudiate/denounce, past statements like this:
I do believe that having her on the ticket might increase the odds of Obama winning the Presidency, but having her actually serve as his VP would dimish his ability to make the kinds of changes in government that he wants to implement.
Fortunately, it appears that Clinton isn't really interested in serving under Obama and that Obama has the good sense not to want that either.
