I screamed at my television set. There was Keith Olbermann, the one beacon of truth in this whole mess, talking on the top of the screen as the vote and delegate totals appeared on the bottom. It was so reassuring seeing the total number of delegate, the committed ones, the super delegate counts, and then.......
There was the lie. The popular vote totals for the campaign clearly showed Hillary leading Obama. No disclaimer that this excluded the huge number of folks that showed up on rainy nights in caucus states, just these cold hard numbers out there for the uneducated masses feeding right into her campaign's talking points.
I kept thinking that Keith or Rachel would interject something about the omission but nothing, nada, zilch. Damn them. Rationalization set in. Maybe the pundits couldn't see monitors with the crawl shown.
Then her speech. Oh so charming with those little niceties thrown to Barack at the beginning and then the references began to her millions of supporters and the record numbers in her camp. Not a word that he had even more of them. No, that same friggin lie was being continued along with the emphasis on just the states she won as if nobody else in the country mattered if the state went to Obama.
And back to the pundits. They even trotted out the elder statesman Tom Brokaw. Surely he'd point out the discrepancy in her claim. Ha, in a pigs eye! If he didn't, of course one of the others, who were clearly excited about Obama's win, would at least barely mention that he won the popular vote as well as bulldozing through the delegates.
Revisionist history. Isn't it marvelous? We just saw the retelling of the Battle of Little Big Horn with the kindly General Custer mistreated by the warlike Indians.
