This is a short diary. I tuned in to see the results of the local races here in San Diego. In case you didn't know, today was California's SECOND primary election (even though we could have gotten by just fine with one).
So, I went to the Channel 10 (KGTV) News website to check the results. I can report the results to you now, regardless what happens later: Channel 10 is clearly biased against the Democratic Party.
Check it out for yourself here.
I suppose there is a way to get a screen capture, but it was just as easy for me to take a picture of my monitor and post it.
Look for yourself. In the Congressional races, they got the Republican Party name right, and they even got the Libertarian Party name right, but there it is "Democrat." I am saying this publically to Channel 10: Keep your Republican bias to yourselves! You are a licensee of the FCC, and you have a mission of public service. You are not some kind of mouthpiece for Republican talking points. I will be filing a complaint with the FCC tomorrow (yeah, I know how much good that will do).
I know it is a nitpick, but it is the suttle corporate bias that pervades our media everywhere. If we don't call it out, they get away with it.
Rest assured that I emailed the managing editor.
It's late and I have to turn in. Goodnight everyone, and congratulations to Senator Obama and Senator Clinton for a spirited campaign that has energized the electorate.
UPDATE: One of the comments mentions that "Democrat" is fine as a noun, and I would agree, if the data were referring to a particular person. However, since this is a primary election, the races are for the nominee of the Democratic Party, not the Democrat Party.
Here is a picture of the results from the San Diego County Registrar. The Registrar managed to get it right (which is amazing in itself, since she is a former Diebold sales rep - it's a long story).
I further note that Channel 7/39 (cable/air), also lists the "Democrat" party. So, the both the ABC and NBC affiliates are doing it.
