On my way in to work I was listening to Nicole Sandler on the radio, talking about last night. She crystallized my tears:
This morning the world realizes that the American people are not like George W. Bush.
Be Like Barack.
I wrote about this once before, but today it seems so much bigger. We have a Role Model worthy of the title. As the nominee of our party, his influence will be huge. As the President of the United States, it would change the world.
Let's start with the moment. I don't think we could ever pat ourselves on the back enough for the courageous new growth of American intelligence that brought us to vote Barack Obama into history. We can stand a bit taller this morning, and we can look in the mirror and like what we see. We made history. It is a chapter that we will always remember with pride.
Then let's move to the hot topic. This is where we need to make sure we are emulating our nominee. Rise above the Hillary Clinton "non-concession" talk. Stop screaming about the potential of seeing her on the ticket.
Be Like Barack.
He sincerely and honestly thanked her. He loved her. Hillary Clinton is beautiful when she is working for the values that Kossacks hold dear, and she has never really lost that. In the midst of a wicked forceful campaign, she has "offended" us nearly every day. But. Barack Obama held no grudge in his heart. We should follow his example.
Hillary's speech was wonderful, to me. It reminded me of all the reasons that she garnered nearly 18 million votes. It could have easily been a stump speech FOR Barack Obama. Maybe she was rehearshing for her coming support tour.
Either way, whatever position she takes in the campaign and the party, we can rise above our "offended" sensibilities. We can move forward with the undeniable joy of this moment in history. We can be like Barack. Yes we can.
Speaking of moving forward, I would like to leave you with my absolute favorite part of our new ultimate role model. The part that made my wife and I cry most deeply. The part that seems most unbelievable.
We might soon have true love in the White House. Maybe for the very first time. It's easy to see, and impossible to miss. It is the most beautiful part of the Obama campaign, and joining it in celebration last night was pure bliss. It is my humble wish that we get to see this love grow and bloom right before our very eyes on Pennsylvania Avenue. It is the most valuable thing in human life, and this couple is not afraid to share it with the world. When it comes to relationships, we have never had a couple that could teach us what an open, intelligent, real love looks like. Now is our time.
Whether your lover, your rival, your wife, or your husband, you can treat the other person with caring respect and an open heart. You can even love your enemies. If you aren't used to that kind of healing forgiveness, there is a great new technique to help you get there. Drop your ego, and rise above. Love first, ask questions later. Rise above the petty offenses of the screaming media. Be classy, be confident, and be strong.
Be Like Barack.
