Earlier today the Olympic Committee announced the four finalists in the bid for the 2016 Summer Olymic Games: Chicago, Rio, Madrid, Tokyo. Tokyo, Japan hosted the Games in 1964 so I think it's unlikely that they'll be chosen. Madrid, Spain has not hosted, however Barcelona, Spain had hosted the Games in 1992; so I think it's rather unlikely for Spain to get another chance, so soon, to host the Games. That leaves us with Chicago and Rio de Janiero, Brazil; as the most likely to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Chicago v. Rio presents a formidable challenge to the Olympic Committee. The Olympic Committee's decision is to be made in the fall of 2009. I think Chicago's chances of hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics are greatly improved by Barack Obama being able to 'seal the deal' for the nomination without descending into a rancourous and fracteous debate with Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama needs to proceed without getting ugly and inciting bitterness in the Clinton Camp. She and her supporters are filled with sorrow and are in the process of grieving.
How we help Hillary and her campaign grieve will go a long way in helping Barack to win the Presidency.
I had studied Kubler-Ross and her 5 Stages of Grief in college. I had no idea that I was working on the exact same hospital unit that Kubler-Ross had worked on, when she formulated her theory of the grieving process.
Much depends on our honoring the grieving process Hillary and her supporters have to go through. Kubler-Ross described the processing of grief, the 5 stages that everyone has to go through.
During my orientation to the telemetry unit, 2-Baumgarter, I was told that Dr. Swann who had developed the Swann-Ganz cardiac catheter also had worked on 2-Baumbgarten. Critical care nurses walk a fine line between nursing and medicine, often drifting more towards medicine than nursing. Grief and grieving are usually the purview of nursing, helping a person regain wellness, adjust to disease and finally, grieving and successfully letting go what cannot be changed. Kubler-Ross's model for tenderness is a fitting model to help heal the Democratic Party.
The Stages of Grief and Grieving are: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and finally Acceptance. You will notice that I did not call them steps. They are not a clear progression. They are stages and they are irregular in their duration and sequence. You know that you haven't reached Acceptance if Anger, Bargaining or Depression surface.
This is not a time for gloating. So much depends on our ability to care for Hillary and her supporters. Like, Barack's winning the Presidency. And, I believe that Chicago's winning the 2016 Summer Olympics also depends Barack's winning the Presidency. We can accomplish this by honoring Hillary and her Campaign's processing their grief.
We have a long way to go to heal Hillary, her Campaign, and the Democratic Party. And ultimately this nation.
It's to Mayor Daley and Chicago's benefit for Barack to win the Primary
It's ultimately not only to Chicago's advantage for Barack to win the Presidency,
but it's also to this nation's advantage to be at the vanguard of racial equality.
Chicago has always been a global leader in civil rights and diversity.
With an Obama Presidency, Chicago will be a global leader in racial equality.
