"For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future." - John F. Kennedy
I thought that I would take a moment to share with you why I had chosen Senator Obama as my choice for the next President of the United States of America.
I first registered to vote in October 1987. I wasn't sure at that age of what my convictions were so I'd decided to just simply register as non-affiliated. In November 1992 I cast my first ever vote in the Presidential election for Bill Clinton & Al Gore.
I must confess that I did choose to become a Republican back in 1999 allowing myself to fall into "peer pressure" and had supported George W. Bush in both 200 & 2004. How wrong I was. The regrets can never be erased.
Last summer, July 2007, I had switched parties to become a Democrat and again had decided to support a Clinton by supporting Hillary whom I had believed at that time will be the best candidate and would also make history by becoming the first ever woman elected to be President. As the many months went by I saw Senator Obama began to rise and was beginning to believe that perhaps this man is a serious contender. However, in wanting to remain loyal to my first choice and to recognize the past accomplishments of the Clintons I casted my ballot in Maryland's Primary and sat back to watch the events unfold... or as Senator Edwards put it, "Allow history to blaze its path."
Last month, on May 19, 2008, just 7 days before turning 38 years old and marking my 20th anniversary of graduating high school and becoming a registered voter, I have decided to endorse and support Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States in 2008. My decision is that I believe that Senator Obama can inspire millions of people across this Nation so that America will once again be that Shining Light for all the world to see. Simply put: America needs to be a country of promise again.
Last night on June 3, 2008 I was elated!
I give my sincere congrats to Senator Obama for remaining focused and determined throughout this election cycle which has resulted in not just a good man to be a nominee for President, but to be a part of America's history in more ways than it may be possible to understand.
I think back to 20 years of my life as an "adult" and I think of all the moments that played out on the Grand Stage of the World... and the events that I personally witnessed or had participated in. And to see and be a part of history unfolding before my eyes as watching you,a representative of a people who have been persecuted for hundreds of years, to be in a position to be the leader of this country is unfathomable in my soul to express the enormity that this must mean to so many people.
Senator Obama, you have already lived up to a promise of delivering change no matter what happens in November. But I have faith in God and in the good people of this country who desires to believe in this country again that you Sir will become the next President of the United States of America.
Every journey begins with a first step. Every step leads to a destiny. May the road rise up to meet you. And may the wind be always at your back. And know that you do not walk alone. We are with you. We who believe. We who want change. We who carry Hope. We who will prevail because Yes We Can!
