The American public has been bamboozled to believe it's too late to impeach Bush/Cheney by the same corporate media shills and special interests who sold us the Iraq War. They don't want us to impeach Bush & Cheney for two reasons:
- They want a war in Iran, for which Bush/Cheney/Media Talking Shill-heads have been setting the stage.
- The special interests don't want an investigation to uncover their hand in the crimes.
Not only have the special interests taken impeachment off the table via T.V., right wing radio talk shows, and the newspapers, which they largely control, but they have intimidated many of your Congressmen to defy his/her Oath of Office
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
Our forefathers believed in impeachment so strongly that they placed it 6 times in 5 places in the U.S. Constitution. To ensure that Congressmen would use impeachment, in the event Executive Office holders committed crimes against the Constitution, they created a succinct oath of office in 1789:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States.
The one Bushism with which I agree:
fool me once, shame on—shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again.
Let's not get fooled again by the propagandists, who are telling us we can't, shouldn't, and won't impeach Bush/Cheney. They are not looking out for our nation's best interest, but their own special interests, which in the long run are destroying our democracy.
I made the following argument against the "let's postpone impeachment mantra" we are getting bombarded with now:
Impeachment is mandated in the U.S. Constitution.
You have been arguing to postpone prosecution for various reasons, but impeachment was written 6 times in the U.S. Constitution in 5 places, to be used to prosecute leaders who abuse their authority and disobey the law: it wasn't meant to be optional as your arguments imply.
No matter what argument you come up with, no matter whether you feel that not impeaching is the only way to get a conviction: all of that is beside the point, because impeachment is what legally must be done when a member of the Executive Branch breaks the law.
Congress is defying their oath of office not to impeach Cheney and Bush. They should be defending the U.S. Constitution now and begin impeachment hearings ASAP.
These are a couple of the unacceptable crimes that the Bush administration has gotten away with while impeachment has been removed from the table:
1. Illegal war with Iraq, which had resulted in untold numbers (some believe over a million) Iraqi civilians dead, over 4000 American soldiers dead, and tens of thousands of maimed and wounded.
2. Torture.
They are about to start a war in Iran during the time that they have left.
Impeaching them is not optional, and it's a crime not to obey the laws written into our U.S. Constitution. No amount of obfuscation, no convoluted arguments, no hypothetical desirable results brought about by waiting, etc. can change the fact that we must obey the law and IMPEACH Bush & Cheney now for the crimes they have committed and to prevent them from committing future crimes, such as killing hundreds of thousands more in Iran.
Would you be in favor of not arresting a serial killer, based on some hypothetical perfect storm of a case that could happen if we waited until next year?
I can't get over how some of you have been so prolific in writing about how we should wait until Obama is elected, wait for 6 more months, so he can have a honeymoon, etc., when our US Constitution is on the line and our democracy is on the line, and many people, who are now alive and well, could be killed and maimed if we follow your foot-dragging advice.
"Let's have secret hearings." "Let's wait 18 months more." Blah, blah, blah. Shame on you for promoting the toxic talking points against abiding by the law of our land to defend the law of our land, the United States Constitution.
Get a grip. Our democracy is on the line. Show some teeth. Show some guts. PULL THE PLUG ALREADY! FOR GOD'S SAKE, PUT A FORK IN IT, IT'S DONE!!! The reasons for impeachment are in the public domain: in Scotty's new book, in Valarie Plame's testimony to Congress, in the National Lawyer's Guild Impeachment Resolution, in Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay, Extraordinary Renditions, Waterboarding, Warrantless Wiretaps, Enemy Combatant Arrests, Suspension of Habeas Corpus, a war that has killed & maimed hundreds of thousands based on p.r. collusion not truth, the muzzling of Sibel Edmonds' discovery of treasonous spying and selling out state secrets by highly placed government officials...
How can we think that it's a waste of time to prosecute for the mass murder of not only so many innocent people, but of our Constitutional rights, the very basis of our country's democracy and for which the flag waves and soldiers have perished to preserve?
This proves that our country has been hijacked by ideologues, who don't agree with our basic principles.
Enough with the non-issues that wear us down, we should be talking about the real issues that affect us: Republicans and Democrats alike.
We should be pulling together to defeat the thugs that are messing with our elections, intimidating us, lying to us, stealing our money, desecrating our Constitution, repossessing our homes, stacking our Supreme Court with fascists, and declaring war on our people. Yes, we can beat them and rescue our country, but not by being fooled again.
Is this the plan? Let the real elitists behind the throne get away with lying our democracy to death through group think complacency?
WAKE UP! Call your Congressmanand ask him/her to tell Conyers to proceed with impeachment hearings ASAP!
