Hello everyone! This is my first diary here, so if it's ignored, it will not be taken personally. I've been a Democratic activist since 2004, and was, ealier this year, supporting John Edwards. Currently, I am a volunteer blogger for Donzella James, Democratic candidate for Congress from Georgia's 13th District. Below is more about the district, the race, and the candidate.
GA-13 is a solidly Democratic seat. Despite losing statewide, both John Kerry and Mark Taylor (the Democratic nominee for governor in '06) carried the district, so given the political winds blowing now, the Repubs do not seem a threat. With electability in the fall not an issue, there is no reason why we should not have the most progressive voice available representing the district. Put mildly, that isn't the incumbent.
David Scott was first elected to Congress in 2002, so he was not there to vote either for or against the war. That said, he has consistently supported continued funding for the war, including during the most recent three-part vote designed by the House Democratic leadership to give all Democrats whatever political cover they needed. Despite representing a safe Democratic seat, Scott was among the 141 who voted against a funding halt (link to be posted very soon). Going further back, Scott also voted for the Medicare Part D boondoggle, and for Bush's energy bill. At the same time, he has demonstrated indifference to the plight of Katrina survivors and while our constitutional liberties are taken away, Scott offers only silence.
Perhaps it's because our friend David has other things on his mind. http://www.beyonddelay.org chronicles in considerable detail the ethical challenges of the incumbent, mostly having to do with the laundering of campaign cash through his family-run printing/mailing house, Dayn-Mark. There is no reason why GA-13 should put up with an unethical DINO, and no reason why the progressive movement should not act to expand the number of favorable voices in Washington.
Luckily, we have that opportunity in Donzella James! She served 10 years in the Georgia Senate, passing 270 bills designed to help those most in need. James took the lead in protecting battered women, children, and veterans. Not once has she been accused of ethical misconduct. Donzella James is running on her record of honest, progressive leadership - and BTW, she has always been an Obama supporter (GA-13 went more than 80% for Obama, or so I've heard). Scott went from Clinton to Obama after the GA primary.
Much more info is available at http://donzellajames4congress.com
She offers detailed positions on Iraq, health care, energy, and education. If you too feel that defeating Republicans is only part of the struggle, that improving the level of representation we progressives get from Democrats is just as important, please visit

The Georgia primary is July 15th. Any support sent her way will be so appreciated! Thank you for reading, and now that the presidential dust has settled - GO OBAMA!!!
