Hi, this is Democrat Mike Turner.
Over the past few months, I've truly been touched by the activism of the Daily Kos community. Whether it was your netroots effort that elected Bill Foster or your long fight against retroactive immunity, it is clear that you can help make a difference. In this way, the DailyKos community has made, and continues to make, our democracy stronger.
You may recall when I publicly endorsed Barack Obama at my campaign kickoff event back in December. You may recall that, subsequently, I was endorsed by the Progressive Democrats of America and by many leaders in the 10th District in public service, health care, and defense. While we are celebrating Obama's victory, I look forward to a similar upset in my primary election vs. Judy Feder on Tuesday, June 10th with your support.
I have spent my entire adult life in public service and would be honored to serve my country and the 10th district residents in the U.S. Congress. Please donate $28 as we mark the end of Frank Wolf's 28-year tenure in Congress. If you are still undecided, please visit my youtube profile, MikeTurner08, to see videos of my debates and my biography video so you can get to know me better.
A major theme of my campaign, that clearly differentiates me from Professor Feder, is "Substantive Leadership". Only the candidate exhibiting Substantive Leadership every day of the year can close the 16-point gap from the Wolf-Feder election and can serve the 10th District effectively.
While my opponent and I agree in principle on most of the issues, only I have shared with you my thought process and detailed plans -- she has chosen to keep her discussion very generalized. I think you deserve the details so you can make an informed choice.
With that, let me leave you with these words, spoken by me on NPR on March 11, 2003, nine days before the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom:
"Perhaps we can pull this off," Mike Turner said, referring to the pending Iraq War, on NPR's Morning Edition, "but here's another scenario that's at least as likely. The war ends within a few weeks, but the crisis deepens. The US is left to administer a political vacuum in Iraq. Iran is emboldened to help the Shiites in the South.... The cost of the war skyrockets. The US economy is dealt a body blow, but the administration can find no credible way out. Britain's Prime Minister Blair is voted out of office... Photos of American soldiers amid landscapes of Iraqi civilian bodies blanket the world press, which aligns unanimously against the US.... These are not remote possibilities, but in my view, reasonable, possibly even likely outcomes."
Please donate to my campaign today, and if you live in Virginia's 10th District, please remember to vote for me on Tuesday, June 10th.
All I ask is that you do your homework, compare my background, accomplishments and positions on issues with my opponent's, then vote to grow our democracy that has been so ardently defended by all of you.
To volunteer to work for my campaign at the polls on June 10th, please contact Juan Perez no later than Sunday at 571-438-0069, or 571-426-6067 or webperez@yahoo.com
In this historic election year, I am poised to engage Frank Wolf on Iraq, transportation, and the economy and to finally unseat him!
I offer my sincere thanks and respect to the DailyKos community and look forward to continuing a dialogue with you on Wednesday as the Democratic nominee for VA-10.
