So I live in San Francisco. San Francisco has always been a mecca for people who are gay..though it seems that since the California Supreme Court decision, more and more gay folks from around the country have moved out here to get married.
So I was out tonight with a friend of mine. She had hooked with a gay couple from Tennessee that had just come out here. They had come to get soak in the atmosphere and get married in a couple of weeks. They had just learned that their home had burned down in TN. Presumably arson as they weren't well liked living in a small town in TN and looking to start over in San Francisco.
Anyway, they had met another gay couple who had just moved from Minneapolis waiting to get married. One of the guys was in the military and just got sent to Iraq. Anyway, his partner just found out from his partners parents that he had died in Iraq..he was there not even a week.
Now, I didn't know this guy, but I have to say WTF? He was ready to get married for real. But, he died for a country that for the most part, didn't recognize his love for his partner. He died in for a President that thinks that he is a second class citizen. Who supported bans on gay marriage in various states.
He should have violated the Don't Ask, Don't Tell and gotten himself thrown out of the military..because getting thrown out would have meant that he would be alive right now..instead he fought for a country that viewed him as a second-class citizen.
There is no justice in the world.
