Red and Blue make Purple, and put North Carolina in play.
OVERHEARD:
'We are a purple state.' - U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, arguing that Obama will put North Carolina in play in November.
Our Democratic Nominee is even coming to North Carolina today to prove it.

Campaign aims to turn red states blue
Barack Obama stops in Raleigh today, planning to use a populist economic message and a hefty campaign war chest to capture North Carolina's independents, newcomers and Hillary Rodham Clinton voters.
The fact is, North Carolina will be on the playing field in November, and I'm so glad to see our Democratic nominee realizing that now. We have a great slate of statewide Democratic candidates to bring out the votes, and I'll be doing my part in North Carolina's 8th District.
As recent polling has shown, Obama is in a statistical dead heat here and that's part of the reason DC is taking NC seriously this time.
I like to think our hard work in North Carolina's 8th District the past few years has helped as well. We're up in the polls and were just named a true "Toss Up" by the nonpartisan Cook Report.
8th District toss-up
Analysts with The Cook Political Report, an independent newsletter that researches elections, has ranked the 8th Congressional District a toss-up.
Two years ago, Rep. Robin Hayes, a Republican from Concord, fended off Democratic challenger Larry Kissell by 327 votes. The race garnered 121,523 votes...
The Cook Report just a month ago had rated the 8th District as "leaning Republican." On June 5, it was moved to the toss-up category.
In a news release Friday, the Kissell camp said the shift signaled voters’ anger over the economic downturn and high gas prices.
It's a tough road for folks in my District economically, and that's a large part of the reason they so desperately seek the change we represent. It's also why I need your help now more than ever to keep our momentum and the Republicans on the run.
I appreciate your support. Stay tuned to North Carolina, and come see us at BlueNC.
