Axlerod admitted weeks ago that he didn't handle the Rev Wright uproar "as well as he should have."
And now, when Obama should be riding high, relaxed and enjoying the latest polls published at Real Clear Politics this morning, he is instead dealing with an incredibly mismanaged and stupid mistake by his advisors.
It's early in the game and Obama is off to such a great bounce, that he will ride this out easily, but he can't take chances that a pattern might be developing.
First the good news. In today's selection of state polls (the first since he became the presumptive nominee), Obama leads McCain by 7 in Iowa, 18 in Washington,13 in Wisconsin, 23 in Massachusetts, 6 in New Jersey and 3 in Michigan.

McCain trips over his tongue every day. Obama can virtually sit on his front porch for the next 5 months and win this election. But not when he has the Keystone Cops surounding him.
The choice of an "old politics" oaf like James Johnson to vet VP prospects is unbelievable. He worked in Mondale's campaign and helped him win 2 states (or maybe 3?)
Here is what Howard Fineman of Newsweek said about Johnson and I quote:
http://www.newsweek.com/...
"He ran Mondale's 1984 presidential race, a disaster which lost 49 states, yet Johnson somehow emerged with his reputation for probity and good management enhanced. He has been involved as a top inside political player in almost every Democratic general-election campaign since. He was closer to the Clintons, of course, but also had made a shrewd decision to move to Obama this time around."
Let's look closely at this. This guy was once very close to Hillary and Bill???? What have I been saying for weeks? (please see my Diaries and Comments) Barack Obama must cut ALL ties with the Clintons. They will find a way to mess him up.if you watch every gaffe in Obama's campaign between now and November and then scroll back far enough in a google search you will find the odd couples fingerprints some where.
They may may not have tipped off the McCain campaign about Johnson's ties with Countrywide. I have no proof of this and I am not accusing them of any malfeasence in this event but why do we need to take a chance?
Hillary, at most controls 2% of the 18 million voters her supporters are shouting about every night on "Hardball"
The early polls show we don't need her and now we also know that we don't need David Axlerod. Why didn't Axlerod happen to note the connection between Ferraro and Johnson??Doesn't he remember what Ferraro thinks about Obama? What the heck is going on here?
Obama has this election in his pocket. He must act swiftly and firmly to keep it there. The GOP swiftboaters and our new "buddies", the Clintons, are lurking. They are brilliant at pouncing on dumb mistakes and building them from mole hills into MOUNTAINS.
Firing James Johnson accomplishes nothing. Barack must bite the bullet and rid himself of advisors who prove themselves incompetent. There is too much at stake. This is no time to be a "nice guy"
Fire David Axlerod today !
