A recent insert ad in a magazine caught my eye. It was a disturbing photo of Dick Cheney, autographed with "Thanks a million." I couldn't believe I was seeing this, especially in a "liberal" magazine. Ick.
On the other side of the insert was this startling headline:
Did Your Phone Help Elect Bush/Cheney?
A very public attack on the current regime? By a company trying to sell me something? OK, I'm interested.
I have help out hope for a very long time that the American public would soon wake up from the nightmare that currently resides in Washington, D.C. these long years. I worked tirelessly for Al Gore in 2000, and couldn't believe that the Supreme Court of the United States appointed George W. Bush as President that year.
I was stunned when the Bush administration was war-mongering for war in Iraq. I wish I could provide links, but even way back then, quite a few news outlets were equally stunned. Yes, even the now tamed CNN had commentators on regularly to discuss the perils of invading Iraq, and taking the focus off the real problem in Afghanistan. (Again, apologies, for no linky-links.) I recall many saying that any invasion in Iraq would only open the doors to Al-Quaeda and other terrorist factions. The doubts of any ties of Iraq, Sadaam Hussein and nine-evelen were there. Even I knew it. Me. Just a regular working American girl. I KNEW invading Iraq was wrong. I watched Colin Powell speak at the UN General Assembly and still knew invading Iraq was wrong. I lost all respect for that man that day.
Fast forward to today.
As a lowly bartender, I speak to a very diverse group of people on a daily basis. I have always followed bartender rules: no sex, no religion, no politics. But lately, the last no-no has become a very up-front, ready-to-talk-about, real-need-for-change topic. People are much more up-front about their views, and their need for change.
And their outspokeness about change.
So, when I saw the ad, I was not only stunned, but my heart filled with hope.
Hope that Americans are truly waking up from this nightmare.
Hope that we can change for the better.
And here's a small start. Get rid of AT&T
A snip from their ad:
Sorry to say, but one one the maximum contributors to both Bush/Cheney campaigns was the political action committee of AT&T.

...if you're happy with your mobile service just the way it is, accept this photograph -- suitable for framing -- as your gift from a real Dick.

I am filled with hope that a company has finally taken a stance against the atrocities this administration has committed.
I am filled with hope that change through Barack Obama is so near.
I am filled with hope that my fellow Kossaks will at least check out this brave company and make change happen!
