Charles Krauthammer
Charles Krauthammer and his lack of critical thinking on energy, jumping on conservatism popualism, when it comes to drilling. In his latest article, on the propergandist website, townhall.com, he addresses the problem of high gas prices with the flat out lie, that drilling offshore the US is the answer to high gas prices.
I suppose when you live in an ivory tower, the realities of the world he lives in, and the inaction of the past, seems to pass him buy.
It has been well documented on Dailykos, that the notion of drilling your way out of high gas prices is not a reality.
At the moment, conservative populism is lying to americans, putting out the myth that gas could be two dollars a gallon if Energy companies where allowed to drill off the coast.
I am sorry to rain on people's parade, but oil is a finite resource, which is running out. $4 a gallon and a barrel of oil at $140 is here to stay, even if JR Ewing was President.
Krauthammer bemoans the high fuel costs, but forgets to analyse why we are here, and the failure to address energy issues decades ago. Conservatives forgot about the problems on the 70's and carried on regardless, more interested in impeaching Clinton then governing the country.
From a personal perspective, if the issues of fuel economy had been addressed in the 90's, the nation would be in a better position to cope with the spike in fuel costs, but we all know, the GOP, fought against increased fuel effiency in cars.
Also Krauthammer, like treasury Paulson, ignore the fact that speculators are driving up the cost of a barrell of oil, and that Bush Presidency has devalued the dollar, which has impacted on oil producers, who are losing out on the devaluation policy. As it has been documented in the past, the conservatives have devalued the dollar, because of the need to help exporters.
