The Virginia Republicans are actually saying that Jim Gilmore has a chance to be the next Senator from the Commonwealth. Delusional as this seems, they have focused their attention on 3 talking points:
1 - Energy Policy
2 - Tax Policy
3 - John McCain
On the subject of the Energy Policy, they are on the "drill here, drill now, and pay less" bandwagon spouted by Gilmore and his oil company cronies. Never mind the facts... It would be a minimum of 10 years before any new drilling would make an impact on the consumer market! Gilmore’s spiel sounds good, and if you tell a lie enough times with conviction, it soon becomes the truth... to the masses, not in reality.
Taxes will be something Gilmore will exploit. He continues to blame Mark Warner for the mess he himself left in Virginia. Considering the real facts, it is no surprise Republicans and Independents are joining the Warner camp. Ever wonder why John Warner refuses to endorse Jim Gilmore? Even more telling, the Republican Senate Campaign Committee chief Sen. John Ensign made the statement, "you don’t waste money on campaigns that don’t need it, or can’t win." The statement was made after being pressed on the issue of money from the RSCC to Gilmore.
By aligning himself with John McCain, Gilmore thinks he will be a more attractive candidate. Well, you can’t fix stupid. As polls just released show Democratic rival Barack Obama with a 15 point lead nationally over McCain, it figures the Virginia Republicans would willingly tie an anchor around their collective necks. As the Democrats have begun to turn Virginia BLUE, the Virginia GOP still hope the Beltway will vote for more of their failed policies. They point to the rural areas of the Commonwealth and say Warner will have a hard time garnering the same numbers that swept him into the Governor’s mansion, yet Gilmore completely ignores the rural areas in favor of bigger markets.
Gilmore’s staff vehemently denies he is ignoring the rural areas of the Commonwealth and says he plans many visits to such areas, yet they can provide no timeline for his supposed visits. What’s up with that?
The only way to combat the twisted logic of the Republican Party is with truth. The light of truth will always outshine a polished turd,
