I just saw John Cusack's brilliantly explosive satire, WAR, INC. yesterday and LOVED IT, but Hilary Duff stole every scene with her perfect portrayal of a foreign performer stuck in an extremely bad sitution.
I hope my fellow kossacks take the time to support this great film. It's totally entertaining from start to finish, with unexpected action sequences and war sequences and biting satire that quickly makes it's point. War, Inc. is about corporate greed gone mad and this movie makes it's point without preaching or lecturing.
Below the fold is my amateur review and a poll:
John Cusack's WAR, INC. is very well directed and the casting is bordering on brilliant. Cusack, of course, is his usual easy-to-watch, totally involved, intelligent, entertaining self portraying a secret agent who's not sure he's doing the right thing. His sister, Joan Cusack, is hysterically funny as a corporate manager running the war "show" and Dan Aykroyd is right on as a completely convincing Dick Cheney clone. I didn't love Ben Kingsley's Southern accent, but his performance was totally entertaining as evil incarnate. But the breakout performance in this film is far and away Hilary Duff in a role that's both hilarious and poignant, playing an entertainer caught up in a place and a situation that only political satire could inspire.
I won't be giving any plot points away, but suffice it to say, WAR, INC. makes it clear how and why the wars in the Middle East are being staged. Basically, "We destroy it so we can make a profit rebuilding it." pretty much sums it all up. Tankers rolling by with huge corporate logos plastered on the sides are both funny and chilling. And the bottom line is very clear. Corporations are running the "show" and people have no "business" getting in the way of those profits.
My fellow kossacks, I sincerely hope you all go to see WAR, INC. and take your friends with you. It's a totally entertaining, fast-paced, action-filled satire that needs legs to stay front and center, so we don't sit idly by when Iran comes into these greedy bastards' cross-hairs. You won't regret it. It's got some really brilliant moments and lots of laughs. I congratulate John Cusack on making such a great movie and telling so much truth in the process.
SUPPORT WAR, INC. now! If you're in a big city, it's probably playing at an art house near you. If you're not, request it at your local theater. You'd be surprised how theaters respond to audience demand.
Peace.
