In the Texas Lyceum's just finished poll, Rick Noriega is within two points of John Cornyn (via email from the Rick Noriega campaign:
The live interview poll has Noriega with 36 points and John Cornyn at 38 with still 24 percent undecided voters and a margin of error of 4.5 percent. Underscoring the deep desire for change in the state, 70 percent of Texans believe the country is on the wrong track and only 23 percent say "things are moving in the right direction." This is the third independent poll showing a tight race between John Cornyn and Rick Noriega.
The full public results of the poll are available at the Texas Lyceum's website (warning, pdf file)
Also noteworthy is that while John McCain would win Texas if the election were today, his support is almost as soft as Junior John's:
Republican John McCain would beat Democrat Barack Obama in Texas if the race were held now. But a significant number of Texans said they haven't picked a favorite yet. Among likely voters, McCain had the support of 43% of those
polled to 38% for Obama. Libertarian Bob Barr and independent Ralph Nader had about 1% each. One of every six voters — 17% — said they haven't decided who will get their vote in November.
Note to Barack: You want to really rattle McCain's cage and build the party in Texas?
Either come yourself, or ask Senator Clinton to come for three stops in Texas-not closed up fundraisers, but low dollar fundraisers or rallys-with Rick Noriega.
The Valley, El Paso, and San Antonio.
There is no safe ground for a Republican this cycle.
Not EVEN TEXAS.
Let's us and them fight.
And, as we're coming to the end of the 2nd Quarter, time for your fundraising nag.
Fill 'er up.
