Well, the so-called conservatives at RedState.com, that bellwether of right-wing bloggers -- all 5 of them, that is -- are in a tizzy.
And I agree with them.
You see, according to the Drudge Report,
SOURCES: BUSH ANGER AT COMING NEW YORK TIMES STORY DETAILING HUNT FOR BIN LADEN... The newspaper is planning to expose a 'highly classified Pentagon order' authorizing Special Operations forces to hunt al-Qaida leader in mountains of Pakistan... DEVELOPING....
You see, the New York Times, according to RedState, committed "treason" when they reported on the warrantless wiretapping going on under this administration. As they saw it at the time, the journalists and editors should have been hanged (just try to read here and here without crying out of sadness for these disturbing excuses for Americans), so when they saw that paragon of trustworthiness Matt Drudge reporting on the NY Times' latest abomination, they got... well, pissed.
If this is the case, [then] this is a repeat offender that does not give a rip about national security and is deliberately sabotaging our war efforts. There is not [sic] other explanation.
When will somebody go to jail!
Never mind the author's questionable use of an exclamation point where there should be a question mark; this diary was... well, somewhat unsettling. My favorite comment so far has to be from the indomitable Jaded, a regular poster at the site:
If the President does not do a full investigation and send someone to prison for this than shame on him....this is treason and the person who who gave this information to the treasonous times should be given life in jail....there cannot be that many who have this information.
Translation: I have a fairly pathetic understanding of what the Constitution actually says, so I'm going to accuse people I disagree with of treason and act all angry, despite a Supreme Court ruling that fairly definitively stated that the government can't prevent a newspaper from reporting something the President insists is a national security issue.
...so then why do I agree with them?
Well, let's start off by saying that I think know that these people are bats41t insane and should probably report to a mental hospital sometime soon if they hope to avoid a complete mental breakdown.
But what I agree with them on is that the president should begin prosecuting the New York Times editors and journalists immediately. If there is one way to get impeached, it's opposing the fulfillment of a bill you disagree with because you're a complete racist getting a blowjob from an intern then lying about it trying to silence your opponents, something that worked wonderfully for President Nixon.
Of course, this doesn't mean he would get impeached, because it requires only a majority vote in the House of Representatives, which isn't impossible, but unlikely. The biggest handicap preventing us from having the option (and why I was happy when Speaker Pelosi stated that it was off the table) was the fact that we simply didn't have the support for it in the House and Senate or among the American people, and the only way to actually get success from this would have been to succeed completely in the process of impeachment. What made the Republicans look like fools going in to the 1998 congressional elections was that they believed their having impeached Pres. Clinton would somehow make them heroes in the eyes of an American populace that was wholly upset with their philandering president. Of course, they were wrong, and the impeachment is now seen by almost all except those who visit RedState.com as the ridiculous and hypocritical power trip that it was; just ask Newt Gingrich's then wife.
But, be my guest, President Bush. Arrest them. Censor them. Do whatever you think is necessary, O Great and Glorious Leader, to stop these traitorous b@st@rds who think they can report the facts to the American people about our failure to capture many of those who helped murder 3000 civilian Americans and to defeat the forces that support them. Because even if you don't get impeached for it, the American public will finally realize that we can ill afford to stand another 8, even 4, years of this president's ridiculous power grabs intermingled with the repeated tossing of the Constitution into the proverbial garbage can, and vote for Sen. Barack Obama to be our next president.
But remember: I'm just a liberal traitor raised solely under this administration (I turn 18 on November 11th), so I'm kind of biased. Seeing as you appear to have been serving as president only of those who frequent RedState.com and HotAir.com (among others who proclaim that anyone in defiance of the president is "traitorous"), you should listen to those jerks geniuses and jail those at the New York Times. Because if there's one way to get your own and your veep's a$$es hauled out of Washington in handcuffs to secure a landslide victory for Sen. Obama over Sen. McSame in November, it's to jail journalists.
Just try. I dare you.
