...and you're a stupid person for asking it."
Every once in awhile, I have a dream. A wonderful, joyous dream in which a major political candidate--one running for, say, President of the United States, for instance--is asked an unbelievably stupid question by either a reporter, a talk show host, or even just one of us "jes' folks", and gives this response.
I know, I know...instant political suicide, right? Perhaps, but in my fantasy world, I think that it would almost be worth it (as long as it was broadcast nationally, live, and then spread around YouTube within moments).
Imagine it:
Bob Schieffer: "General Clark, doesn't being held and tortured as a POW automatically qualify someone to be leader of the free world?"
Clark: "I'm sorry, but that's a stupid question, and you're a stupid person for asking it."
Charlie Gibson: "Senator Obama, why don't you wear a flag pin on your lapel?"
Obama: "I'm sorry, but that's a stupid question, and you're a stupid person for asking it."
UNLV Student (possibly set up by CNN?): "Senator Clinton, do you prefer diamonds or pearls?" (h/t to socratic for reminding me about this one)
Clinton : "I'm sorry, but that's a stupid question, and you're a stupid person for asking it."
Joe Lieberman: "Governor Dean, hasn't the capture of Sadaam Hussein made us safer?"
Dean: "I'm sorry, but that's a stupid question, and you're a stupid person for asking it."
Some MTV Schmoe: "Governor Clinton, do you wear boxers or briefs?"
Clinton: "I'm sorry, but that's a stupid question, and you're a stupid person for asking it."
Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
(sigh)
UPDATE: I was just reminded of a classic bit from The West Wing regarding...green beans:
