I just saw a story on Yahoo that said Republicans are gaming for the possibility that Barack Obama will pick Dick Gephardt as a running mate. The article says that Gephardt is the VEEP choice they fear most? Do they really fear Gephardt or is this another GOP head fake, meant to influence Obama to pick Gephardt.
Here is the Yahoo article that got me thinking about this. .Gephardt As VP?
Pros: He opposed Bush's tax cut: Demonstrated here, on an artile from the Newshour: Opposed Bush Tax Cuts
He is vehemently anti-NAFTA: I list that as a pro here from the point of view of the base and not my own personal view. Opposition to NAFTA Another question, does Obama want a VEEP so vehemently opposed to NAFTA, or does Obama want some wiggle room here?
He is from a swing state: Missouri is definately up for grabs, but does he still hold enough political sway to swing it to the Dems? I don't know.
Cons: He voted for the Iraq war. Here's a CNN,com article with Dean blasting him for his war vote. Dean blasts Gephardt on War
He retired in 2005 to work for Goldman Sacks: Will that be viewed as cashing in? Gephardt Retires
I think that this campaign should be about the future, Gephardt reeks too much of old battles, from the 90's, as does Hillary, so I wouldn't recommend either.
My choice is Webb. I think he's head and shoulders above everyone else. What do you think? Is this a good choice or Repubs playing head games with Dems?
