... than we've given him credit for?
What if he's deliberately pulling us together, without us even realizing it?
My own little conspiracy theory below the jump ...
What if Barack Obama, by virtue of his FISA vote, is creating something that has not been seen in America for generations?
What if Barack Obama is taking full advantage of the Age of YouTube and the Intrawebs to teach us a lesson we have desperately needed for decades?
The FISA group on www.MyBarackObama.com has 14,000 as of today (it was founded last week). Every day, so far, the numbers are going up. People are joining, stating their reasons why he should vote NO on FISA, analyzing the FISA bill as to why it is a bad bill.
Isn't this amazing?
What if Barack Obama deliberately said he would vote for this FISA bill as a way of galvanizing us into becoming not seen in this country for decades (if ever)?
What is that?
An educated, informed, participatory citizenry.
He's teaching us that our voices matter - that every phone call, every e-mail, every letter addressed to a Representative or Senator adds up. That we can lean on Congress hard enough to get things changed. He's teaching us how to support him when he becomes President by teaching us how to pay attention, how to respond, how to be a political citizen.
We're learning through doing. And maybe Democrats in Congress will learn that there are people out there who support them - that if they show a spine and do what's needed and right we won't summarily abandon them because it's what we the people want.
This is a conspiracy theory I'm hoping is true.
