After propping up and backing up Nouri al-Maliki for years, the Bush administration was handed its worst nightmare when the Iraqi Prime Minister called for a timetable for troop withdrawals.
How did they respond? The White House fell back on its own old tricks, calling Maliki "misinformed" on Iraq and that he does not understand what it's like to see his own people die.
The story: Bush Calls Maliki "Weak" on Iraq
Here's one of the big Bush "quotes":
"I am disappointed, but not surprised, to hear that [Maliki] is calling for us to just up and surrender in our critical battle against the enemies of freedom," Bush said in a Rose Garden news conference. "It seems Mr. Maliki is absolutely fine with terrorists taking over in Iraq, but I can assure him that if he was over there, he’d better understand the battle that we’re in, the way that I do. You know, apparently he believes that we will not prevail in our mission to create democracy in Iraq, but I can assure him, as well as the people he purports to represent, that freedom will flow by the barrel there if it’s the last thing I do as president."
And he shows his sensitivity, and math skills:
"As Commander-in-Chief, every time the media brings it up, I’m forced to deal with the heavy fact that many of our finest men, and a few of our women, have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the Iraqi people. I don’t really do numbers, but it’s been a lot, and maybe if this Maliki understood what it was like to see his own virtuous, innocent people die, he’d have a better appreciation for what we’re dealing with.

Bush on his decisive leadership and the economy:
"I’ve been told that we’ve hit a bit of a rough spot, a skid, and some people are apparently upset about not having jobs, although that was when I was having the most fun," Bush said. "But hey, I’m a doer, so with this decisive act of leadership, I am confident we have completely reversed the problem. Now, people can’t be complainey little bitches about not having a job, because from here on out, being a complainey little bitch is full-time work."
