Join me in persuading Democratic organizations to stop wasting money and trees on sending folks like us snail mail solicitations, and providing supporters an easy way to tell them when we prefer e-mail.
I do my best to contribute to good political causes as best I can, which means I've given, over the past few cycles, to the DNC, DCCC, DNSC, Obama, and a slew of other candidates for offices locally and around the country. I usually willingly sign up for their e-mail lists. Like most of you, I give a lot of thought about to whom to donate and when. When I donate, I always do it online. I've never responded once to a postal solicitation for a contribution, though I've responded plenty of times to e-mail solicitations (what I sucker I am for Obama's match-a-new-donor blasts).
Nonetheless, in the past two weeks, I've received no less than a dozen different postal mail solicitations for money, including one today from the DNC. What a waste! The postage is wasted. The printing cost is wasted. The paper is wasted. Wasted, all of it.
Sound familiar? What you can do is below the fold.
At least theoretically, these organizations have my e-mail address, know my donation history, and have all the information to see that if they want to ask me for money, they should send me a freakin' e-mail!
As a matter of organizational effectiveness and environmental values, the DNC and other Democratic organizations should provide a quick and easy way on their websites to indicate a preferred means of communication, and they should honor it. I've suggested this to the organizations I support, and I hope you will as well. Links below the fold.
