The Museum of Broadcast Communications has nominated James Dobson, one of America’s most intolerant voices, to its Radio Hall of Fame. The Focus on the Family leader has said that allowing gay people to marry will "destroy the earth." Focus on the Family hosts the nation’s largest so-called "ex-gay" conference – where they claim to convert homosexuals.
Dobson has also been accused by seven researchers in two years of twisting their work to promote his anti-gay political agenda. Clearly, Dobson lacks the character and integrity to be considered for the Radio Hall of Fame.

The Museum of Broadcast Communications should act responsibly and immediately withdraw Dobson’s name from consideration. Fight back by signing our formal request to have James Dobson removed from consideration:

Dear Mr. DuMont:
I find it outrageous and unconscionable that you have nominated Focus on the Family’s James Dobson for the Radio Hall of Fame. I believe that character counts, and that nominees should have a career based on honesty and integrity. Dobson fails to meet this test and it is baffling that you would nominate Dobson, given his long and unique record as a singular leader in the realm of deep intolerance. Dobson has found the notoriety in which you propose to honor by endorsing discrimination, distorting research and outright lying.
Dobson should be excluded from Hall of Fame consideration because he uses his platform to spread unadulterated bigotry. For example, Dobson told The Daily Oklahoman on Oct. 23, 2004:
"Homosexuals are not monogamous. They want to destroy the institution of marriage. It will destroy marriage. It will destroy the Earth."
If Dobson had spewed such raw venom against any other minority, he would not be under consideration for the Radio Hall of Fame. There should be no double standard, where such hatred is overlooked, as if there is a gay exception to the rules of civility and common decency.
Dobson profits from intolerance. He founded a ministry, Love Won Out, that promises to "cure" homosexuals – even though the so-called "ex-gay" leader of Love Won Out, John Paulk, was photographed in a gay bar. Dobson also continues to promote dishonest psychological theories about gay people that are rejected by every respected medical and mental health association in America, including the American Psychological Association and the American Psychiatric Association.
It is an understatement to say that James Dobson is truth challenged. In the past two years, at least seven researchers have accused Dobson of manipulating or cherry picking their results to back his anti-gay teachings. A full list of letters and videos documenting the accusations of these respected scientists can be viewed at TruthWinsOut.org.
In choosing a nominee for the Hall of Fame, character counts and morals matter. Just as Pete Rose was banned from the Baseball Hall of Fame despite his success on the field, Dobson should be ineligible until he apologizes for his vicious lies and distortions of research. The reputation of the Museum of Broadcast Communications is at stake and fair-minded Americans are asking that you act ethically and responsibly by removing James Dobson from consideration.
Sincerely,
Dr. Carol Gilligan: James Dobson Distorts Research Again
Focus on the Family's James Dobson has once again distorted research and "cherry-picked" quotes to support his views. This interview with one of the authors he misquoted in Time Magazine clarifies what she really said and how she feels about Dobson's tactics.
Dr. Kyle Pruett: James Dobson Twisted My Research
James Dobson’s assertion that "two mommies is one too many" doesn’t tell the whole story, according to one of the researchers Dobson quoted. Author and family relationships expert Dr. Kyle Pruett feels that Dobson "cherry picked" his research to support highly discriminatory views.
