Hello Progressives,
PLEASE GO TO THE NEXT DNC LOCAL PLATFORM SETTING MEETINGS AND SET YOUR OWN TOP CHOICE OF WORDS FOR A CEASE FIRE PLANK - CREATE PEACE NOW - THANKS!!!
Let all candidates know undeclared wars are costing too many generations, too much.
Peace is free, let's take the path of a cease-fire, and get out safely; guard and fix our soil and future.
No matter your party, nor political preference; the DNC and Obama have a great tool to find a meeting to build the ideal Presidential Platform.
I suggest you go to:
http://www.democrats.org/...
to find a meeting in your time & location.
These are some of the latest results from the one held in Santa Rosa, CA last Sunday.
Please share your results. Do what you can to require Congress take back the sole power to declare war; only with majority public consent.
Peace does prevail,
Colleen Fernald

DNC cease fire plank gets approved by sharp attorney
Alta Walters, an attorney in Santa Rosa, was kind enough to publicly
challenge my finding that the War Powers Act of 1973 is
unconstitutional. The Act states that the framers of the Constitution
intended to "insure that the collective judgement of both the Congress
and the President will apply to the introduction of United States Armed
Forces into hostilities," which is absolutely not true.
Alta claims only the Supreme Court can decide if this fabricated
intention renders the War Power Act unconstitutional. She is
exceedingly well versed on the Supreme Court's evading the issue of the
Act's consitutionality. The fact is that Alta, or any one of we the
people of the United States who can read the Constitution, is qualified
to decide, and, thereby, establish the Constitution. Her review is a
wonderful step toward Congress ending mass murder in undeclared wars
NOW. Whereas Alta thinks the DNC will not accept that the War Powers
Act is unconstitutional, she is willing to help we the angry people say
is in unlawful.
John,
I can support this amended language. Thank you for the discussion last
night; while we don't agree on all levels, it established that, as is
often the case, with discussion we find more common ground than
discord. The new language has removed all of my objections. Feel free
to forward this to Steven if you like.
Alta
***** Wow! We the congressionally betrayed people thank you, Alta
Walters.

DNC cease fire plank
Here is a foreign policy plank for Democratic National Convention
platform as offered by a DNC Platform Meeting on July 20, 2008
facilitated by Stephen Gail in Santa Rosa, California:
Congress must immediately bring our troops home from unconstitutional
wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. To this end, we call for Congress to
declare an unconditional cease fire in Iraq, and to initiate the
immediate withdrawal of our volunteer United States troops from the
undeclared wars of congressional choice, not necessity, in Iraq and
Afghanistan.
Public Law 107-243, the Strike First Act of 2002, that authorizes the
United States "to use" deadly military force on foreign soil
"as" the
President "determines to be necessary," without a declaration of war,
must be repealed.
The equally unlawful War Powers Act of 1973, Public Law 93-148, that is
used to justify the Strike First Act of 2002, must also be repealed.

Last week the Democratic National Committee and Obama for America unveiled Listening to America: The Democratic Platform for Change, a bold new initiative to involve the American people in the development of the Democratic National Platform, giving Americans the opportunity to organize and engage in Platform Meetings in all 50 states. Just a week after the launch of this ambitious platform program, interest is through the roof and in the last eight days alone, 1,300 platform meetings in all 50 states--including town hall-style meetings, radio call-ins, and web chats--have been scheduled.
Under the leadership of Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, Democrats are engaging in a 50-state strategy, showing up in every state, listening to voters, and asking for their votes. In the same spirit, the DNC is about to launch a "Register for Change" bus tour with Dean to involve as many Americans as possible in the political process and register them to vote.
"Barack Obama's message of change, the 50-state strategy, and these Platform Meetings are all components of the same goals of unity, transparency and change," said Michael Yaki, National Platform Director. "Americans' immediate and enthusiastic response demonstrates how thirsty Americans are for change, and how eager they are to be heard after seven years of an administration that has ignored people's wishes. People are no longer interested in my-way-or-the-highway politics. The renewal of America begins with listening to the hopes, fears, and dreams of the American people."
The Platform Meetings will take place in all 50 states from July 18th to July 27th. Americans nationwide are invited to attend these meetings. To further the open exchange of ideas, policy representatives from the Obama campaign and the DNC will be on hand in as many meetings as possible. Each Platform Meeting will produce a written summary, which will be reviewed as part of the drafting process.
