Boy, here in Kentucky we sure are straddled with two of the worst the national Republican Party has to offer. First we have Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader, then we have Exxon Ed Whitfield, whose election year Renaisance doesn't quite reach to the point of holding Karl Rove accountable for contempt of Congress. Read on about some goings on in the Bluegrass state.
Mitch McConnell decided to release this ad, blaming Democrat Bruce Lunsford for high gas prices:
Now, there are so many problems with this ad, I don't know where to begin. I think I will let the Lexington Herald-Leader and the Courier-Journal of Louisville answer.
From the Courier-Journal:
Mitch McConnell's first ad in this year's Senate campaign in Kentucky is so silly and pointless that it seems like a spoof from a political satirist.
If only it were. Then maybe there would be hope that the minority leader of the United States Senate was going to talk about real issues, instead of probing the political depths to determine how many voters can be fooled one more time.
The ad claims Sen. McConnell's Democratic rival, Bruce Lunsford, lobbied for "automatic gas tax increases" almost 30 years ago. That refers to the successful effort by Gov. John Y. Brown Jr. during the 1980 General Assembly to convert the state's gasoline tax from 9 cents a gallon to 9 percent of the price of gas. Mr. Lunsford was Mr. Brown's chief legislative liaison.

And from the Herald-Leader:
McConnell's commercial is essentially dishonest.
But that's not the worst of it.
He's confusing an already perplexing picture at a time when the country desperately needs to hear the truth. We need campaigns that illuminate the nation's challenges, and energy is at the top of that list. Until we understand where we are and how we got here, we can't build a more secure future.
McConnell, who was congressional chair of the first Bush inaugural and has risen to his party's highest rank in the Senate, should have a wealth of wisdom and knowledge to share with Kentuckians.
And yet he feeds us distortions.
McConnell's misleading ad isn't unexpected. Manipulation has long been his strong suit, and the senior senator must be very pleased with the way his ad uses Lunsford's own words against him.
But this dishonesty from McConnell is disappointing all the same. It's a discredit to his lofty position and an insult to the people who have kept him in Washington for 24 years.

I couldn't agree more. McConnell's mere prescense in the Senate has been an insult to this Kentucky voter for a long time now.
We need to show McConnell that Democrats everywhere will rally behind a Democrat who is being smeared byMitch McConnell's Lies. Go here and slap it to McConnell:

Our next tidbit of Kentucky Republican news comes from the lack of guts shown by Exxon Ed Whitfield, my Congressman, in answering my call for Karl Rove to be held accountable for his contempt of Congress. Here is his reply to my email:
Dear Mr. Dillon,
Thank you for contacting me in favor of holding former White House aide Karl Rove in contempt of Congress for failing to appear before the House Judiciary Committee.
In a statement from his attorney, Mr. Rove cited a letter from the Justice Department stating he is immune from testifying before the Judiciary Committee because of executive priviledge. Although I am not a Member of the Judiciary Committee, I understand they have not determined whether to pursue charges against Mr. Rove. I certainly will remember your concerns should this matter come before the full House of Representatives for further consideration.
Representing the First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives is truly an honor. I recognize that my voice is only here in Washington to represent my constituents. For this reason, your thoughts and opinions are of critical importance. I sincerely appreciate your comments and look forward to hearing from you in the future.
Sincerely,
Ed Whitfield
What is particularly annoying about this letter, is noticing how Eddie dances around the issue, and makes no attempt to either tell me I am wrong, or support Rove. We need a representative who is not afraid to take a stand:
Ed Whitfield is a failed "Contract with America" Republican, who until an election year has rubber-stamped every failed policy of President Bush and Mitch McConnell. We need new leadership in Kentucky!!!:
Please, go here and make it happen!!:
With all Democrats behind us, we will win these races!!
