As we've suffered through the longest Presidential race in history, a narrative on our side of the political spectrum arose. McSame. Obviously, because McCain's policies were so close to those of President Bush.
But I'm not sure that's fair. And not in the way you might think. I'm not arguing that McSame is too harsh...I'm arguing it isn't harsh enough.
More below the fold
You see, George W Bush is the worst President in history. A war criminal who should have been shipped off to the Hague yesterday. But even he has limits.
I don't think even Dubbaya would have leaked a Gore or Kerry visit to a war zone prior to it happening. Even George W Bush has a tiny 1/10th of a Grinch heart, and wouldn't be able to risk their lives. Bush is much better at throwing lives away when they're just part of a number on a piece of paper.
I don't think Bush would have taken his opponents writing in a Holocaust memorial guest book and twisted it into a political attack. Even George W Bush, the stupidest President in history, would say "durrr, dat stupid. ZOOM ZOOM".
I don't even think Bush would have falsified the order of events in Iraq like McCain did with the Anbar Awakening. Not because he isn't a liar or evil, but because he at least has conscious handlers who wouldn't let a dumb ass mistake like that happen. And if he did, his handlers are smart enough to know to just lie about it happening all together rather than tell a bunch of lies to try to erase the mistake.
I can't even see George Bush trying to get mileage out of linking his opponents to Fidel Castro or Hamas. Or saying that Kerry was trying to surrender to Al Qaeda. He would have just flashed his $5 smile and said "my opponent doesn't understand the situation" or some similar BS.
So, no, McSame just doesn't cut it. Because with every passing day, McCain jumps a new shark and goes further to the extreme. Another 100 days of this, and he'll probably be more "WTF?" worthy than the President.
For me, it has to be McShame. Shame on you for taking the low road when this could have easily been a unifying campaign of ideas. Shame on you for preaching reform while your wife flies you and your team of lobbyists around. Shame on you for trying to take credit for the hard work of Colonel McFarland and others. Hell, just shame on you in general at this point.
McSame is of course still correct. He is a carbon copy of the current Administration. But for those moments when he goes even farther than the madman will go...he's McShame.
