I just want to point something out that is very key to wrecking what little hope the Republican brand still retains for November. It turns out that based on recent polls the increasingly vital Hispanic bloc is moving rapidly to Obama's camp for the Presidential election.
Obama 66%
Mc Cain 23%
Obama's approval rating with registered Latino voters, the nationwide Pew Hispanic Center poll found, is at 66 percent versus 23 percent favoring McCain.
Obama's "strong showing in this survey represents a sharp reversal in his fortunes from the primaries, when Obama lost the Latino vote to Hillary Clinton by a margin of nearly 2-to-1," according to Pew Hispanic Center associate director Mark Hugo Lopez.
Obama's favorability among Latinos is slightly up from a Gallup Poll summary of surveys taken in May, which showed Obama with 62 percent of Latino voters nationwide, compared with 29 percent for McCain.
"He now appears to be even more popular than Hillary Clinton among Latinos," Lopez said.
The death knell appears to be sounding for Republicans' disingenuous attempts to appeal to the Latino voting bloc. Clearly, Obama hasn't been able to spend a huge amount of time campaigning for the Hispanic vote since his recent visit to Florida, in which he boldly stated to key Cuban-American groups that it was time for a new and more open course in America's relations with Cuba.
But now that the primary is over, and the Latino community has had a chance to recall the truly ugly xenophobia pervading the Republican Party, Latinos appear to be coming home en masse to their true political home. With Obama's 50-state strategy being reinforced by the long and bruising primary, which ensured a strong Obama presence in dozens of states, it's clear that grassroots activism combined with the chance to introduce himself to the Latino community is starting to pay powerful dividends. Si Se Peude!
This is simply a drive-by, as I must continue work; I hope this is of interest!
