I was thinking that after Nas performed his "Sly Fox" song on The Colbert Report the other night, it made me think about something deep.
Seriously, whenever most in the rap/hip-hop game talk about the networks, and especially Fox News, they really talk about only a few things but mainly these two: Calling O'Reily an asshole or talking about the media focusing on the negative factors in the urban community over the positive.
And with that, I realized that a lot of rappers don't know or give any attention to the complete opposite of Asshole's Spin Show, "Countdown". And really, how important and brilliant it is. In fact, a lot of people still don't watch Countdown compared to that other channels top show.
That really needs to change. Someone or something has to bring more mainstream awareness to this show besides the blogs. With that, I wrote this song late last night, and I wanted to share it for you all on the Kos. Hopefully in the next days, I will record it with the beat from "The Slave and the Master" from Nas lastest album Untitled (formerly call N-----). It's called "The Alternative."
Hope you enjoy.
"The Alternative"
First verse:
Why be the latest rapper to complain about the idiot Factor/
When I got a show where my emotions are perfectly captured/
A show that's never scared of the blogs/
Understands that truly without them, how would its heart thob/
Took me a long while to get on this ship/
Thought the boat was unstable with who was captain' it/
Heard about the reports of Olbermann bein arrogant/
Sources say he had a fallen out with Dan Patrick/
Especially when I heard all he did was slam O'Reilly/
Thought he was obsessing over dude for his popularity/
Then, I stepped right into reality/
Turn the TV over from Lou Dobbs semi-rascist mentality/
Hit me harder than goin over at black jack/
At 21, ironically, "Favor show Award" was sudeenly hijacked/
A much needed light surrounded by Murdock's black/
Fox bein that color, that's like Kobe likin the freestyle from Shaq/
Kept repeating it more than the Duck does Aflac/
Countdown is without a doubt, "Where it's at?"/
Chorus:
For M,S, N,B,C, not entirely/
Only for Countdown, with its lead man Keith/
While Matthews can go off the boil/
And Scarborough is hungry for that oil/
To the treatment of the people, Countdown is loyal/
Second verse:
CNN talks about havin the Best Political Panel/
Besides Cafferty and Martin, that's not the case with that channel/
Especially since the best pundit is lady Rachel Maddow/
Exposing all these lying, deceiving hoes/
Then the unbelivably irrational assholes will say "She's a lesbo!"/
My reply to those hateful idiots, "SO!"/
Pure soul, everyday, she exposing all these trolls/
Always doing it with a smile with an inner calypso/
Progressive, she's one of the true, real liberals/
Complex mind, but she explains it so simple/
In fact, why am I dubbing her simply a liberal/
When what she says aint bias, but its totally factual/
Opinions that's rational, and unlike Billie-O/
She's one that's truly not caught in the SPIN cycle/
And this all without even hearin her on the radio/
Turn away from this payola music and flip the dial/
Chorus 2x
Third verse:
While the rest of the pack distorts and spread slander/
Ain't afraid if I appear to be given this show propaganda/
Despite the occasional blandness of Harold Feinstein/
Easily erased by Hayes, Wolfe, and Mr.Eugene/
My fellow rappers and future fans may not know the names/
I'll tell them, watch them, to further know Obama's change/
Far away from ever being cheezy/
But if they ask me tone it down, in this one instance, I would gladly/
For this is about spreadin a show with much sense/
No time to hurt the cause with a blip of obstinence/
Ain't doing this to get paid by MSNBC/
It's about the fight to save modern day humanity/
Whoever knew that a sports caster/
Could easily be the center of honest, hard news chatter/
I could give a damn if they don't have a balance/
Kiddin me, tossing the truth away from a little false salad/
Everyone with a working sense, take part in the challenge/
Until victory is won, can't drink from the chalice/
If Cooper is a 360, then this is a total 180/
The truth comes first, the ratings are secondary/
But in the real world, a show needs the big numbers producin/
So please everyone, let's raise it's Nielsen/
8PM Eastern, 7 Central/
6 in the mountain, 5 pacific, 3 in Juneau/
Let's GO!
Chrous 2x
Sha-la!
Note, four more lines that I wantde to include:
Giving it more check marks than a Nikesneaker swoosh/
Always laugh my ass off when he says "Bushed"/
Worst Person in the World makes me somehow love this world/
Best Person in the World showin people nuttier than food of squirrels/
