Especially given a shift now of 230 million dollars from counter-terrorism to upgrade the countries F-16 fighter jets.
Perino's spin is that the jets are used for counter-terrorism but the truth is this is a ploy to prop up the Pakistani government as Pakistan is suffering from a food and energy crisis. God forbid the Pakistani government use $230 million on energy or food for the people.
But to shift aid away from counter-terrorism at a time when the Taliban grow stronger in Afghanistan and extremists thrive inside Pakistan's border is outrageous.
The fact is Pakistan has not provided the kind of support against extremists in Pakistan as we have needed from them. Of course not since Mushareff skillfully played both sides of the conflict since 2002; he managed to do just enough to allow the U.S. aid to flow into Pakistan while not actually defeating the extremists in Pakistan or on the Afghan border.
Pakistan is not a Democracy. It's Executive was appointed by Mushareff (a dictator who overthrew the legitimate government in a military coup), it's Judicial branch must live in fear of arrest or even death if it rules against the will of the Executive...
There is also little doubt that this situation persists because of our (the United States) foreign policy of the last 7 years. It's a foreign policy that has achieved none of it's stated goals. We have not defeated Al Queda in Afghanistan, we have not defeated the Taliban in Afghanistan, and terrorist extremists still train in Pakistan!
Our policy has not only failed to achieve U.S. foreign policy goals but has prevented the Pakistani people from realizing political freedom. They have suffered tyranny for a decade because of U.S. foreign policy. The situation should not be acceptable to the people of America as we above all else should value liberty.
The debate between Pakistani liberty and American security should not even be engaged given that Pakistan has been such a tepid ally. Is the cost of tyranny purchased so cheap?
