This was intended to be an Open Thread, but please forgive me - I couldn't figure out how to set up a diary as an open thread.
I have been doing some research today, and I can't find a definitive answer.
Has there ever been a elected black head-of-state in the history of Europe, or ex-colonies such as Australia, Canada, or elsewhere? I can't find an instance in which a white majority has elected a black head-of state.
The only answer I can think of that remotely comes close is Nelson Mandela in South Africa, although this followed the end of Apartheid and subsequent transfer of voting power.
If anybody has any ideas, please share them.
