As apparently have CBS and Katie Couric's complicity in it.
I was busy yesterday and only got to see half of Meet the Press, but did see Tweety's show. It appears no one on Sunday morning discussed McCain's assertion that the Sunni Awakening followed the surge, a demonstrably false "fact." (Am I wrong? Please correct me.)
It seems to me this is an assertion well-worth looking closer at, particularly in light of his campaign's decision to stick by the statement. It clearly demonstrates his either confusion, misunderstanding of facts or deliberate lying, .
It seems too, that the heat on Couric and CBS has dropped off too. Apparently they will get away with, "Oops, our bad, some low-level employee made a mistake," an patently absurd explanation.
I have discussed it with friends, who are well-informed, but no junkies. And though they are NY Times readers, they haven't heard a word about this development. I'm very disappointed in the lack of traction this story has received.
I guess I shouldn't be, but I had more faith in the press, and am a little confused at all the maelstrom that the fake National Guard memo generated while this story sits largely unexplored.
I'm a little disheartened at Obama's prospects, when Reverend Wright can lead the hour for days on end but McCain "misstating" basic facts on his supposed strong suit barely generates a ripple.
