A week after an O'Reilly/Hannity/Savage fan murdered two at a Unitarian Unversalist church, it is fitting to take a hard look at American Radio--AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT.
Too often we treat it like the weather--as if it is inevitable that 91% of radio is right-wing, and the 45% of Americans with no high-speed web access are to be surrendered to the big-drum-big-lies of Republican media.
But you CAN do something. I'm proof, as is the organizer of this event. My testimonial (and event details), below.
My testimonial to Aldous Tyler--organizer of this event.
Working from Wisconsin, he helped organize Ohio Majority Radio, which helped a mom-and-pop station get started here in Columbus: WVKO 1580 AM--the only progressive radio station in Ohio.
(And smack in the middle of a key state for the upcoming election, btw.)
It has been a struggle, but a handfull of us have rolled up our sleeves, doing everything from putting up the satellite dish, to creating the station web site; as well as volunteer staffing and finding advertisers.
It's still a month-to-month battle. And at times it seems futile.
While the GOP and it's media juggernaut seem to have bottomless pockets for hate stations(despite their falling ratings)-- we can't seem to get significant Democratic Party support.
But if we have to do it grassroots alone, that's how we will do it.
Attend this conference to learn what you can do.
