And she just became my hero. Ow Lorrrdddyy!
Was just watching "Race to the White House". The pundits on were Rachel, Michael Smerconish, Pat and Harold Ford.
They were debating Dana Milbank's article, within a broader argument of whether Obama was humble or whether Obama exhibited too much Hubris.
Rachel had spoken...so had Harold. ..
Then Pat Buchanan pulls out the Washington Post and starts to quote Dana Milbank (even though Rachel had stated earlier that Milbank's quote had been disputed by other credible sources all day)....so Pat starts to read the article (as if it were gospel)...You should have seen Rachel's face...normally Rachel waits until she gets her turn to speak but she just jumped in.
But just before she could open her mouth Smerconish - who had a June 4th 2008 copy of the New York times with him - jumped in:
Actual Quote:
"All right. Nobody was in a room from a journalistic standpoint when that statement was offered, but, The New York Times - I'm amazed that no one has brought this up so far - June 4, 2008, a direct quote from Senator Obama, "I love when I'm shaking hands on a rope line and I see a little old white lady and a big burly black guy and Latino girls and all their hands are entwined, and they are feeding on each other as much as on me. It's like I'm just the excuse." In other words, he's said it before, in the proper context. It's a feel good statement about the country and what he represents. We don't have to debate what he said behind closed doors because we have him on the record. And giving him the benefit of the doubt, he said the same thing yesterday that he told the Times on this day."
Smerconish went on to say that we don't have to depend on second hand quotes from people who were in that Dem Congressional meeting yesterday, because we have a direct quote from Barack Obama himself, where Obama has appeared humble and where Obama has implied that this election is not about him.
Now this is where it got interesting (all this time Pat remained quiet). Rachel jumps in and says....well, watch for your self:
Start at 4:45....
Thank You boltgirl
It was something along those lines but with more bite and MSNBC immediately cut to commercials. Harold Ford and Smerconish were stunned. The looks on their faces had me crying with laughter. I jumped up and down with delight like a baby!
Maddow basically called Buchanan a racist, and the look on Pats face was simply, priceless.
UPDATE:
There's another diary on the rec list referring to this same incident. The video link in said diary doesn't contain the segment where Rachel smacks Pat Buchanan.
Interestingly MSNBC has the segment prior to the smack down, and the segment after the smackdown, up online, but not the smackdown itself.
UPDATE II:
.Still no video; I've found all other segments except for thee smackdown. Freaktown below has suggested that we write MSNBC at letters@MSNBC.com and demand that they release the video. You can also call MSNBC at 212-790-2299. I think we have a right to see it.
Hopefully someone captured this on DVR and will post online soon.
UPDATE III: (Off-Topic)
New Quinnipiac Poll out:
Ohio: Obama 46, McCain 44
Florida: Obama 46, McCain 44
Pennsylvania: Obama 49, McCain 42
Here are the details of the polls. I won't even bother with analyses. But this is supposedly bad for Obama? huh? Wasn't McCain supposed to WIN Florida going away?
From CNN's poll yesterday.....Obama is doing quite well on the issues:
Economy: Obama +11
Iraq: McCain +7
Gas Prices: Obama +21
Jobs: Obama +19
UPDATE IV: (Off-Topic)
George Bush on TV right now. Looks like he's about to announce a draw down. Says Ambassador Crocker was apparently able to walk the streets of Baghdad last Wednesday. Reduces length of tours (of duty) to 12 months as opposed to the current 15 month's. Says "Support troops so we can bring them home in victory"
Can't wait for the end of this man's administration.
