I ask this question as a person who is 100% certain that the election was stolen in 2000, and has serious, rational questions about the 2004 election.

If the exit polls and final vote are way off, what is going to be done? Has the Obama campaign mentioned this? Is that even the metric they would use? If not, what is? How do we know that Obama will not wilt in the face of shenanigans, the way a Lieberman-influenced Al Gore did?

This stuff is important to me, and I imagine a lot of you. Without answers, I feel all-too-certain about what is going to happen in November, and it's not paranoia. Fool me once...

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  good questions (0+ / 0-)

lots of "purging" of voter rolls under way in new Mexico and elswere.

"Journalist" Rove is hard at work, too.

Karl Rove has threatened a GOP high-tech guru and his wife, if he does not "'take the fall' for election fraud in Ohio," according to a letter sent this morning to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, by Ohio election attorney Cliff Arnebeck.

The email, posted in full below, details threats against Mike Connell of the Republican firm New Media Communications, which describes itself on its website as "a powerhouse in the field of Republican website development and Internet services" and having "played a strategic role in helping the GOP expand its technological supremacy."

Per yesterday's diary "Watch for the Steal", I've pretty much come round to the view that the Republicans cannot win the presidential election fair and square -- they can ONLY steal it.  Which means we should expect they will try to do so, as they have done so successfully in the past.

Therefore I'm seriously contemplating foregoing some Obama donations I had planned to make, and sending the same money instead to
    for Obama's own good.

If his campaign makes it clear that this issue is on their radar at all, I will happily trust them to make appropriate allocations as between promoting their candidate and making sure the system is not undermined....

order for them to steal it?

What if they just steal it anyway? After they have been annointed "winners" in the media, there is no recourse to overturn the election. Don't talk to me about recounts or the Supreme Court - we all know how that turns out.

In other words, stop them now or it's too late.

John McCain is not a nice man.Get the 527s out there and tell people like Earl from Hattisburg what McCain is really like.Obama can deny that he is involved. If we let them get away with this again then we deserve what we get.Its like Charlie Brown and the football. What he should have done after the 2nd time is take the ball and make Lucy eat it.

  •  Lawyeeeeers (1+ / 0-)

If it's anything like the primary, part of the answer will be on-site lawyers and a ton of lawyers answering election issue hotlines day-of.

I've been talking with members of the NY Obama scene, and it seemed like every single lawyer, and there were a surprising number of them, had already been identified and tapped by the campaign to run these duties both in NY and in neighboring states like PA. They had boiler rooms with just desks, folding chairs, phones... and lawyers.

I'm hoping that any Kossacks who practice law will be willing to donate their time election day to aid in this effort.

I am a lawyer, and I just went to the Obama site and volunteered my services for this purpose.

Unfortunately, though, I recall manning the phones during the 2004 elections, convinced that if we were there to keep it clean, it would work out.

      You guys...remember GRASSROOTS please???

There are literally hundred of THOUSANDS of people on the ground in EVERY STATE. We are very very involved and attentive to what's going on.

"The Campaign" may have its plan but I haven't talked to ONE SINGLE grassroots organizer anywhere in my state who isn't hyper-vigilant.

It could be because we are Florida and we're "mad as hell and aint gonna take it no more" but I think many other grassroots orgs in other states are preparing to block cheating too.

    •  Election day is too late (0+ / 0-)

it will do NO good for a bunch of lawyers to file injunctions on election day - Bu$hco courts won't reverse the results if the GOP manages to steal it again.

Voter rolls are being purged now.  Dems need to make sure they are registered, have appropriate ID, know where/how to vote well in advance of election day.
      And turnout must be massive.

for what if's. Don't worry, be happy :)

  •  They will send a sternly worded letter. And then (0+ / 0-)

wonder why it didn't work. If Obama doesn't start being more aggressive, he's going to turn a potential landslide into a close thing. He's allowing McCain to dominate the press coverage with his insane attacks instead of setting the press agenda with a string of high-profile events. And he's now talking about taking time off in August. Shades of Ned Lamont vs Joe Lieberman! What does Obama think McCain will be doing while he's on vacation - politely stop smearing him?

  •  I am getting a little (0+ / 0-)

annoyed sending money, sacrifice my life style, sending money to O's camp and O is not going on the defense. Fuck the poll  and the press, they are all repug driven. State polls tell a different story. States are where the Elector votes are.
All this stuff out there on Mccain (Mcfossil's own twisted memory and for god sake his veteran voting record, civil rights voting record) for O to bury him. What about Mcfossil's military record that he has not released yet?  I need to see some DEFENSE AND SOON.

I trust OBama and I know he's running a different campaign. Sad to say. Attack ads work. Attack with truth about this repug party is not lies.
I understood him not attacking in the  primaries but I don't understand why he's not attacking McCain. Ads are to soft and the back ground music is horrible. I realize that 75% of the press and media is negative toward him, that is why I sacrifice to send money for him to buy airtime. jedReport have excellent videos of mcFossil would be a start and some here have great ideas. I want to see my money attack with trues.
