If there was ever any doubt about AP's slide to the right, today's headline re Obama agreeing to four debates should end it.
Today, Obama agreed to four debates (three presidential and one vice-presidential) after the conventions. But what is the AP headline?
"Obama Backs Away from McCain Debate Challenge"
It has been noted of late that the new Ron Fournier AP is in the tank for McCain. I think this headline, i.e. spin, concerning the debates is about as egregious an example of bias as I've seen so far.
Fox News has been clearly understood by the MSM - not just the Left - to be a right wing platform. But the wire services - AP and UPI - were historically neutral. It's one thing to create a new right wing propaganda shop, but it's quite another to hijack a previously respected wire service.
I suppose this is just the latest example of the press in this country tilting to the right. We've seen it over the past decade in the NY Times, the LA Times and the Washington Post. It is becoming increasingly acceptable to skew the reporting of events to fit a right-leaning narrative.
I'd be interested to hear thoughts about how pressure can be put upon the AP - somehow hit them where it hurts, i.e. their bottom line. Can we pressure local papers to stop paying for AP stories?
