All of us who work in organizing know how precious our grassroots volunteers are. Often we get discouraged by events on the national level, or just plain exhausted from the level of campaign activity this year. But all it takes to bring us back up again is hearing a good vol making a connection with a voter on the phone, or laughing as a canvass team reports in on their adventures (this Saturday's story to top was the guy in just pajama bottoms...well, it could have been worse).
In the interest of celebrating our volunteers- and encouraging others to step up- I came up with a concept for a logo especially for this campaign season. This project called for some custom artwork, and fortunately I knew just the designer to tap for it: Sam Reynolds, Maine Democratic Party Youth Intern (Special Ops/Graphics Division). Sam is 16, and conveniently he is also my son. I think he is quite talented, but I may be biased, so I'll let his work speak for itself. The design and more below the fold...
The Volunteer for Change Logo
Sam created the shoe design in Blender, a 3D modeling program, and enhanced it in Photoshop. I added the text to create the logo.
If you like it, you can get it on a t-shirt or sweatshirt at zazzle.com in just about any size and style you can imagine. There are a few other designs in our Zazzle gallery, including the Maina' for Obama T and an Obama/Allen button with the Maine state seal in the background.
Our County Committee gets a royalty on each order, so you'll be helping our campaign efforts as well. We're working hard to elect Tom Allen in place of Susan Collins, to help give Obama a fillibuster-proof majority.
In addition to several projects for the Maine "Victory '08" Campaign and the Young Dems, Sam has designed yard signs for three of our Maine House Reps (Seth Yentes, Veronica Magnan, and Carrie Jones), so his design work will be all over the landscape this fall.
Thanks for clicking through, and let us know if you have other ideas for Dem graphics- Sam needs a new project!
