John McCain's new ad (source) gave Obama the exact break he needs to turn the narrative of this election.
Here's how it would go:
- Open with John McCain saying during the GOP debates that we are better off than we were eight years ago. (transcript)
NOTE: If there was a good soundbyte/video of it, that would work much, much better, but his quote in the debate is too rambly to use. If anyone can find him saying it anywhere else, it'd be cash money.
Purpose: This sets up that McCain is either delusional or misleading. It's largely separate from the rest of the ad, but this clip needs to be played endlessly from now until November.
- This is followed by McCain saying in his ad today that we are worse off than we were four years ago "Broken"
Purpose: It both detracts from the previous quote and sets up the next really well
- Video of McCain saying he supports President Bush (a piece from the Jed Report video [the MTP part] would work well), coupled with two different stats:
*McCain voted with Bush 95% of the time in 2007
*McCain has voted more with President Bush more in the past four years than he did in the first four
(I'm working on a source for this, but considering he only voted with the party 67% of the time in 2001, it's a possibility)
Purpose: Sets up the hypocrisy and ties him with Bush
Voiceover: Is that the "Straight Talk" and judgment America is looking for?
Finish with a flurry of positive Obama stuff is there (I'd include some of his bi-partisan bills in this ad). What I don't get is why the campaign isn't using his actual legislative accomplishments, considering how much experience is a GOP issue this time around.
As always, thoughts/comments/rants are greatly appreciated.
