For 8 years now I've dreamed that President Bush's successor would:
- endorse and continue our Global War On Terror
- vow to expand the US military and our Middle East presence
- firmly oppose doctors' and patients' calls for single payer health care
- point out that anti-war liberals like to spit on veterans
- praise and quote Ronald Reagan, not Jimmy Carter
- oppose Freedom to Marry and cast it as a state's rights issue
- reject impeachment and war crimes prosecution
- endorse warrantless domestic surveillance
- keep all the executive power I've amassed for the US President
We all agree that John McCain is an idiot who would not achieve any of these things. Americans could never accept any of that from him.
Thank God Almighty for Barack Obama.
And of course, thank you, Daily Kos.
Thanks for making sure this is a battle of parties, not ideas.
Thanks for affirming that the proposals raised by candidates like Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney must be dismissed and never discussed. With your help, Americans can conclude they're not really candidates at all. You've enthusiastically marginalized all my real opponents - those traitors Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan, Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich and most Americans - who have for years favored my impeachment and a swift exit from Iraq - so someone with values more like mine can be elected.
As Bob Woodward pointed out, two years ago I was ready to run for President.
But now it just isn't necessary.
Someone will say this is snark or isn't constructive. But in your hearts and minds you know every word is true.
So I dare you. Debate the issues raised in this unflattering diary. Discuss serious ways to forward the agenda you wish or pretend Obama will follow. Here's just one:
Study after study is finding medical professionals overwhelmingly endorse single payer health care. Just why does Obama oppose them?
If instead my little diary disappears, so most of you can go right back to your attacks on impotent McCain - without ever discussing how to hold the next President accountable for all the ways he's forwarding my agenda - you'll just prove me right.
