Yesterday I posted a news item about Hillary's attack on the Bush crony contracts. Today I found an item about her senate bill on federal aid to local transit authorities.
More below the fold.
Ezra Klein posted this short item today on his blog
Hillary Clinton has introduced a version of the Transit Relief Bill into the Senate. The bill, which would allocate $1.7 billion to ease the financial strain of increased ridership on local transit agencies, passed the House in June but lacked a Senate cosponsor until now. It's hard to see it being signed under Bush (principled conservatives like Bush oppose subsidies for transit systems that aren't made out of corn), but Clinton has a lot of star power, and if she wanted to make this bill a vehicle for her to push the Democratic caucus towards a coherent and aggressive advocacy of transit, she certainly could.
I don't know when she did this, I guess before the August recess, but it's a great piece of energy legislation that would add a brick to the Democratic energy superstructure that we will need to build.
It's already passed the house, wouldn't it be great if it passed the senate. Of course Bush would veto it, unless a desperate McCain campaign pleads with him to sign it.
I know my city of Los Angeles really needs some help with our transit system. Ridership is way up and revenues are down.
I just wanted to post this to boost it's chances for passage. Please let your senators know you want this passed, it would be such a boost for our party to pass any energy/transportation legislation before November!
