The week of August 4-8 brought us three explosive stories. One, being that Brett Favre was traded to the New York Jets. Two, the revelation that Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards had an affair. But the most earth-shattering story to come out of this work were the allegations from Ron Suskind's book that suggest President Bush faked the case for the Iraq war by forging documents to make it seem that Al Qaida and Saddam Hussein were linked to the 9/11 attacks. Yet, I can't figure out why the Suskind story isn't such a big deal but a politician cheating on his wife is?
The news that the Bush administration used fake documents to make the case for the Iraq War should be front page news in every newspaper. And, should dominate the discussion on every cable news show. With these new allegations there should be room to debate the merits of this war not whether or not we can still win but why we invaded a sovereign nation in the first place. We've not had this discussion in the last 5 years and with the 5th anniversary of President Bush declaring "mission accomplished" it saddens me to say the American people really don't give a damn about how this government lied to everyone. Those lies resulting in the loss of over 4000 American soldiers. I can hear a collective yawn from the millions of Americans watching Ron Suskind this week. No one cares. If they did they would've flooded Washington with letters, phone calls, and emails, demanding this administration to come clean. But that didn't happen.
Yet, hear we are on August 8, 2008 and we're discussing the extramarital affair of John Edwards.
Who cares.
If John Edwards is guilty of something it's that he betrayed his wife.
John Edwards is not guilty of lying to the nation in leading us to war.
John Edwards is not guilty of using the Constitution of the United States as a piece of toilet paper.
John Edwards is not guilty of using the Department of Justice as tool for political manipulation.
John Edwards is not guilty of authorizing torture.
Knowing the mainstream media as it is, they will push this story until it makes the Democratic party look like crap.
They're obviously in the tank for the GOP, and if you don't believe me just ask Scott McClellan.
There are more pressing issues to discuss than John Edwards' affair. This nation under George Bush is on the verge of ruin. But don't tell that to David Gregory who has become such a disappointment during these last few months. In his world the John Edwards affair might have "broader implications" for the Democratic Party.
And what are those "broader implications?"
This country is on the brink of ruin that I would hope that even Americans will look pass this nonsense and vote against a "Bush Third Term."
If we're to have a debate on the most pressing issues of the day the American people must look pass the nonsense that's coming from the mainstream media. If not we will be swindle once again by political pornographers who snuck in the back the door because we were distracted once again by garbage that's worth not even writing about.
