Faye Armitage is running for FL-07, against John Mica. She has been endorsed by the Florida Progressive Coalition and the Local, State and National PDA. Faye should be added to the Orange to Blue Candidates. How about helping her to get on that list?

We need to change Congress in addition to changing the White House. Florida is a very gerrymandered state and we need more Democrats representing us. This is the best chance we have to throw incumbants like John Mica out of office. Mica, like all Republicans, is not safe this year. FL-07 is an R+3 District. He can be beaten and Faye is the candidate to do it.
Florida Progressive Coalition Primary Endorsements
By Editorial Board on August 13th, 2008
Notice: Because of their positions within the Democratic Party, Alison Berke Morano and Kenneth Quinnell abstained from this voting process.
Below is a list of of candidates Florida Progressive Coalition has endorsed in this month’s Democratic Primary. These are the candidates that most impressed the members of the editorial board as progressive Democratic candidates (or at least more progressive than their opponents) who have a legitimate chance of not only winning their primaries, but of winning seats in the legislature or Congress.
We only endorsed candidates who were in competitive primaries and endorsements were based on a majority vote of those managers who voted. The two primary qualifications for endorsement were: 1. The progressiveness of the candidate and 2. The candidate’s support for the Netroots. A number of managers also factored electability when casting their vote.
This list is not all-inclusive and doesn’t cover every competitive primary in Florida. In particular, we declined to vote in races where no one was familiar with any of the candidates or where we thought there were no candidates worth an endorsement or where there was enough disagreement amongst the managers where no candidate won enough votes to beat out the others. There are other good progressive Democrats running in Florida this year, but they either are in uncontested primaries, didn’t make our radar screen (sorry) or didn’t impress enough of us that they were a significantly better candidate than their primary opponent.
Without further ado, Florida Progressive Coalition endorses the following candidates.
Congress-07, Faye Armitage
Congress-08, Alan Grayson
Congress-09, John Dicks
Congress-15, Stephen Blythe
Congress-22, Ron Klein
FL House 8, Sean Shaw
FL House 59, Betty Reed
FL House 92, Mark LaFontaine
FL House 100, Evan Jenne
HELP PUT ANOTHER PROGRESSIVE IN CONGRESS
Here's little background info on Faye.
Faye is a fighter and has been striving to make people’s lives better, for years. She has been actively trying to increase stem cell research since her son became paralyzed at age 7. Faye’s credibility came from having a background in the healthcare industry, as a planner and having a son who could benefit from the research. Faye went on to found Cure Paralysis Now. Her stem cell activism has been documented in news outlets such as the Orlando Sentinel, Wall Street Journal, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Los Angeles Times, among others.
Faye is not a one-issue candidate. As a former Professor of Economics, she understands what is needed to get the economy back on track and away from the failed Bush/Mica/McCain policies that have gotten us in our current mess. The primary action the United States must make is to end the Iraq War. It is draining our treasury and increasing our national debt to unsustainable levels. Faye was against the Iraq War, from the beginning, and marched in Washington. She has a personal stake in ending the war; her son-in-law is currently serving there.
Faye also does not have one world view. Her father was an executive with a large multi-national company, so she grew up all over the world. She spent parts of her childhood in Europe, South America, the Far East and the Middle East.
Faye has raised five children. We need someone who understands the struggles that the people of District 7 face every day. We all feel the pain of soaring gas and food prices, and the lack of a single payer universal healthcare system. Some of us can’t find a job. Schools are not getting the funding they need. Healthcare is too expensive and benefits are being cut. We need new leadership with bold ideas who can help move the Country forward. A ninth term of John Mica does not equal progress.
