Of all the DLC Clintonian hacks who constantly tested our limits of civility with their bloviating on pundits' shows, Lanny Davis may well have been the worst. He did not shock anyone, of course, by signing on with fair and balanced Fox News just after the primary ended. And now, in about an amusing article as I've read in some time, from the "prominent Washington lawyer and a political analyst" in the equally fair and balanced Washington Times, comes an article reminding us that, in fact, Ted Stevens has not yet concluded his trial.

Lanny Davis, brave defender of those poor downtrodden souls being railroaded by overzealous prosecutors, spends the entirety of this masterpiece of journalistic integrity reminding us all of the concept that Ted Stevens (R-Series of Tubes) must, in fact, technically be found guilty in a trial before he is actually guilty and is, in fact, technically "innocent" up until that point.
And, of course, to all of us here at DKos who love to pronounce people guilty without the benefit of the trial, he does us a great favor by showing what a tragic rush to judgment that would be! In fact, he even gives several helpful examples to illustrate this crucial point. The Duke students accused of rape for instance, and Richard Jewell. These brave souls who were later exonerated are in fact exactly like brave Ted Stevens, who battles on to clear his name and his integrity.
Lanny reminds us that we should not judge Stevens in any way, since his trial is in fact not yet complete. And indeed, we should all as one laud Stevens for his brave stance and cheer him on in his quest to clear his name. Right until the day after his name can no longer be replaced on the ballot.
